Rain, fog, thunder, road flooding - if you're in bed, maybe stay there...

First week of summer, is it?

MET ÉIREANN MAY have lifted their weather warning – but there’s no sign of the rain going away just yet, and motorists have been reporting heavy surface flooding in some areas.

Heavy rain will persist in many parts of the country this morning – particularly in the east and north.

According to the weather service:

“Elsewhere it will be a damp, foggy start with isolated showers.

Light to moderate southeast winds will continue to veer southwest with the clearing rain, and temperatures today will reach 15 or 16 degrees at best this afternoon.

There’ll be a gradual clearing later – but there’ll be showers sticking around too, “heavy at times with a risk of thunder”.

Tomorrow’s looking a little better however – a “drier, brighter day, with sunny spells and scattered showers”.

The unsettled conditions will be around all week – although there’s some indications next weekend will show an improvement.
