A WIND WARNING remains in place across the middle of the country this morning – and there are reports of trees down and other problems on the roads, after a night of high winds and rain.
The M7 Dublin-Limerick Rd has just reopened southbound between Junction 27 for Birdhill and Junction 28 for Castletroy following a serious collision, AA Roadwatch reports.
In Dublin, the Back Road in Malahide – a busy route on weekday mornings – is closed between Malahide Road Junction and the Castle due to a fallen tree. Closer to the city centre, according to the AA, traffic lights are out of action at the junction of D’Olier St and Fleet St and nearby on Pearse St and Townsend St at the Garda Station.
The ‘yellow alert’ wind warning covers the counties of Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Wicklow, Offaly, Mayo and Roscommon.
It lasts until 9am, and according to Met Éireann:
Westerly winds will reach mean speeds of 55 to 65km/h with gusts of 90 to 110km.
The winds may ease later – but conditions won’t be improving very much, forecasters say.
Heavy, persistent rain will affect parts of the west and southwest this afternoon and evening, according to Met Éireann, with scattered showers of rain, sleet and snow elsewhere.
Further heavy showers – some of sleet and snow – are expected tonight, and tomorrow will be a cloudy day with heavy rain. It will be a cold day tomorrow too – with temperatures of just one to five degrees.

Continuing cold and unsettled with further heavy downpours. Snow likely also in places with some heavy falls possible over higher elevations. Some sunny spells breaking through but overall a good deal of cloud. Daytime temperatures ranging 4 to 9 degrees.
