Weatherwatch: temperatures could reach 26°C in some areas

Break out the suncream – today is set to be the hottest of the current sunny spell.

THE GOOD WEATHER continues today, with Friday is set to be the warmest day of the current spell.

Meanwhile, on Saturday temperatures will be a degree or so lower with showers, affecting the south of the country, while further north will hold onto sunny weather. On Sunday, more showery rain across southern areas while over the northern half of the country will again be sunny and still on the warm side.

In detail…

Friday

A very warm day countrywide with values between 19 to 25C, with a chance of 26C in one or two spots, warmest in the midlands west and north, coolest along east and south coasts. Due to the very high temperatures and slightly unstable air over the south, shower clouds will build and move into Munster where one or two could be on the heavy side in the late afternoon and early evening. There is a slight risk of thunder in parts of Munster with Clare and south Galway at risk of a shower too. Elsewhere will be fine and dry with hazy sunshine at times. Winds will be easterly and light for the most part.

The onshore breeze increasing along the east and south coast will hold temps back to between 16 to 18C.

Sunday

Temperatures continuing to fall back by a degree or so with highs of 20 to 22C but a cooler 15 or 16C in the south. Winds will veer to the south east during the day.

The outlook is a bit uncertain with low pressure and unsettled weather for Monday but remaining mild with values in the mid to high teens. Some rainfall may make it’s way northwards over the country during the day.
