Fancy a pint of plain? You won't get one in Wetherspoon's

Well, Guinness, anyway. You’ll get Beamish and Murphy’s.

DISCOUNT PUB CHAIN Wetherspoon’s won’t be selling Guinness in their Irish bars.

The UK pub chain is set to open pubs in Blackrock in Dublin and Cork city. The company has spent €2.38 million developing the site of the former Tonic Bar, in Temple Road, Blackrock, creating 60 jobs in the newly-named Three Tun Tavern.

The pub will open next Tuesday, but nary a drop of Guinness will be had.

That is because Wetherspoon’s and Diageo Ireland, who supply Guinness, could not agree a price point that the company felt would allow it sell the stout at its traditional low prices.

Company spokesperson Eddie Gershon told TheJournal.ie that you will, however, be able to get stout in the form of Beamish and Murphy’s.

He added that the company is not worried that the absence of the black stuff will affect business.

“We believe we have a good range.”

The company, which sells Guinness in the UK, says that pints will be priced at €3.95.
