Woman held over death of elderly man in Wexford is released

The body of Walter Plunkett was found outside his home in Ballyedmond near Enniscorthy yesterday.

Updated 6.40pm

A 50-YEAR-old woman arrested in connection with the death of an elderly man in Co Wexford has been released from custody.

The gardaí said tonight that “a file will be prepared for the information of the Director of Public Prosecutions”.

The body of Walter ‘Wallie’ Plunkett, 84, was found outside his home in Ballyedmond near Enniscorthy yesterday morning.

A post mortem examination carried out at Waterford Regional Hospital yesterday has established that the cause of death was asphyxiation.

The woman was arrested at the scene in connection with the investigation and is currently detained at Enniscorthy Garda Station where she continues to be questioned.

RTÉ reports this morning that Gardaí are not seeking anyone else in connection with the death.

They removed my comment! :( now that’s censorship! All of you hop off your bloody morality pedestal and realise this mans death is no more or less significant than any other death that is regularly joked about!

Have to agree with Niall. . .There must be respect for the family but it IS an unusual story and one which if it happened abroad would be joked about. The “pure evil” comment is really funny, though. Down with this sort of thing!
