Dublin Minion doctor: ‘I’m not afraid of the giant escaped Minion’

The man tasked with repairing the escaped inflatable beast says it’s a bouncy road ahead.

IT’S THE STUFF of nightmares.

This giant seemingly unstoppable Minion hurtling towards you. A metaphor for the yellow creatures’ almost certain world domination.

minion1 Dónal Sharpson Dónal Sharpson

That was the scene in Santry on Sunday, as the giant inflatable broke loose from its mooring and rolled across the Old Swords Road.

Fast forward to today though, and the terror has been contained… for now.

The Minion is in a heap, literally.

Banaccident and Emergency

He’s at Bounce Ireland HQ, under the watchful eye of Gerry Frawley who spoke to DailyEdge.ie today, while simultaneously carrying out a visual appraisal of the great beast’s condition.

He’s sitting on my floor as we speak, deflated. He’s gasping. He has been waiting now for almost 18 hours and not even on a trolley.

miniondeflated Gerry Frawley Gerry Frawley

Frawley was speaking to us from Bounce Ireland’s giant warehouse. Bounce doesn’t own the Minion – that honour goes to the Bird family of Funderland fame – but they’ve been drafted in to repair him after Sunday’s drama.

He plans to get the repairs underway this afternoon, but was reticent to give a full prognosis.

I’m not going to give an opinion without a full examination. The first thing we have to do with patients like this is to blow him up and determine his injuries and looks for rips and cuts.

Inquiring gently about the Minion’s mental state Frawley conceded that he was “a bit shook. He needs gentle counselling” after his bid for freedom.

Gerry’s a veteran at this, repairing inflatables of all sorts, an expert in the field of bouncy castles and the like. He’s genuinely concerned about regulation of inflatable in public spaces, and says it’s something he’s been raising with the government for some time now.

Godspeed

Are you afraid of him, Gerry?

we ask.

And we have our reasons.

minion2 Dónal Sharpson Dónal Sharpson

No, not in the least bit. Well, not at the moment at least.

But the hesitation in his voice is soon replaced by confidence as he explains how the Minion’s tethering points are going to be made secure, how they’ll ensure that he’s well anchored when he reaches his next temporary home in Tralee.

Godspeed Gerry. Godspeed.

@Aire Dezamba: it’s funny that so many areas there is no money for. Yet every budget , there is over an extra half billion for an already insane welfare spend …

An Garda Siochana have enough to tackle without being involved in the issues involving public transport. Ticket checks by inspectors on Dublin Bus are as rare as they’ve ever been. Anti social behaviour, drug use and dealing and fare evasion are rife on our public transport system and no Minister give a flying fcuk because they don’t use it, unless it’s first class service on Irish Rail. Meanwhile the general public run the gauntlet going about their business and hope they get home from their days work with their belonging in tack and their clothes odour free of smoke. It’s time for a dedicated transport police policy.

@Paul Linehan: I was on the luas going to Broadstone there was a ticket check on the way there and another one on the way back I returned on the red line with no sign of a check on either side.

@Alan Scott: To be fair to the Luas. I’ve seen plenty of ticket checks on both lines and security interventions for anti social issues.

So the only alternative is when public service vehicle’s been stoned is to make all of the Communities suffer by pulling the service? You put that against Ministerial cars been stoned you will get a swift reaction from the Garda .Two sets of rules for the same job.

Cosy relationship with the government in the top brass of the Gardaí, any attempt to usurp the elite and offer another force to compare the performance of the Gardaí will obviously be met with reluctance. Charlie Flanagan acting as a mouthpiece for those in charge of the Gardaí. Why does the article not have a quote from the Garda commissioner on this proposal?

@BreadBasketCase: harbor police were disbanded against Garda wishes. Airport police are glorified security and an Garda siochana has repeatedly called for the airport police to become a fully fledged police force.

    So really, your talking shite
