Couple stop to help after collision - and have their car stolen

A female passenger received slight injuries during the incident.

A COUPLE WHO stopped to help out after a collision this afternoon ended up having their own car stolen – by one of the people they tried to help

The gardaí air support unit were searching for the culprits this evening.

The incident began at 2.30pm this afternoon at Clara Vale, Rathdrum, when a bus and a black Volvo collided.

A German-registered black Mercedes C180 stopped to lend assistance at the scene – and the four male occupants of the black Volvo stole the car.

A female passenger in the Mercedes received slight injuries in the incident.

The stolen vehicle left the scene in the direction of Glendalough, and gardaí are investigating reports that the Volvo had been involved in a burglary earlier in the Athy area of Carlow.

The black Mercedes has now been located in Tullow Co Carlow, and is being preserved for technical examination.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Wicklow Garda Station on 0404 60140.
