Woman, 20, killed as car hit concrete pillar

Police said they had earlier seen a vehicle being driven dangerously in Claudy, Co Derry.

A 20-YEAR-OLD WOMAN was killed in a road crash this morning when the car she was in hit a concrete pillar in Claudy, Co Derry.

The woman was a passenger in a burgundy-coloured Renault Clio when the accident happened at around 1.30am today.

PSNI officers had spotted the car being driven dangerously in a nearby area 20 minutes before the accident, and had set off to follow it. They then came across the scene of the accident.

Two men, both aged 22, were arrested in connection with the incident and are now in custody helping police with their inquiries.

The Police Ombudsman has been informed. This is standard procedure in all fatal traffic collisions involving police.

The PSNI have appealed for any witnesses who may have seen the car in the area to contact them.
