Lisa Healy and Colin Roche, both of whom have taken their own lives in the last three months.

Woman, 20, takes life just months after boyfriend

Galway woman Lisa Healy, 20, took her own life last Friday – within three months of her boyfriend committing suicide.

THE GALWAY town of Abbeyknockmoy today saw the burial of a 20-year-old woman, who tragically took her own life within three months of her boyfriend.

The body of Lisa Healy, 20, was found last Friday – less than three months after her boyfriend, Colin Roche, also took his own life.

The Irish Sun reports that Healy had left a series of posts on her late boyfriend’s Facebook page after his death, saying that things would “never been the same without you” and that nobody “will ever replace you”.

After her death, others wrote on her own wall, saying: “I hope you’re with Colin up there, give him my love.”

Libertas founder Declan Ganley, who is a friend of both families, told yesterday’s Liveline that the community had been devastated by the double suicide, and described the pain being felt by the community as “incalculable”.

Suicide, he said, was “the most unnecessary thing of all… every other option is better than that. Call the Samaritans, call into a church. There is always an upside.”

Roche, 24, was found dead in his family shed by his father Peter, a local Fine Gael councillor, in November.

The Samaritans can be called at 1850 60 90 90 or emailed at jo@samaritans.org.
