Investigation continues into attack on 96-year-old woman during burglary

It is believed the woman had money stolen from her that she had been saving up to buy new windows for her home with.

GARDAÍ ARE CONTINUING to investigate an aggravated burglary in which a 96-year-old woman was attacked and gagged.

They said today that their investigation into the incident, which took place at 12.30am yesterday morning, is ongoing. Nobody has been arrested in connection with the burglary.

During the incident, a man dressed in dark clothes entered the house in Ardravan, Co Donegal, through the kitchen window, from where he went to the woman’s bedroom. Gardaí say he then gagged the woman and “roughed her up”.

He left with the contents of her handbag, which included a quantity of cash. The woman pushed her panic button after the intruder left, and gardaí arrived almost immediately afterwards.

The Irish Daily Mirror said today that the woman is still recovering in hospital, and that the money taken was being saved so that the victim could put new windows into her home.

Anyone with any information about the incident is being urged to contact Buncrana Garda station on 074 932 0540.

I agree. If you hand the money over to the criminals in advance, they won’t have to come into your home to look for it ;)

    Will old people ever learn?

Keeping cash in the house is an invitation to robbery. As the 2nd biggest town in Donegal, Buncrana has banks, a Post Office, and credit union, all of which would have kept her money safe.

Barry, hope to live to be 96 and then you may realise how easy it is to do the basic things like walking, driving, living. Shame on you.

Annette, I have aggressive cancer for which there is no cure, just treatment to delay the evil hour.

If I make it to next Christmas, I will be very lucky.

    Have a nice day!
