Woman and son killed in Co Louth car crash

A 35-year-old woman and her 10-year-old son are fatally injured when the car her husband was driving struck a wall.

GARDAÍ in Co Louth are investigating a road traffic accident in which a woman and her son were killed.

The woman (35) and her son (10) died when the car they were travelling in struck a wall on the R132 at Dunleer, south of Castlebellingham, on the old M1. The car was being driven by the woman’s husband.

The man and two other passengers – one of whom is the 4-year-old daughter of the couple, the other an unrelated 11-year-old girl – have all been taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

Gardaí believe the 11-year-old female is in a critical condition.

The scene of the crash has been sealed off pending a forensic examination, and traffic diversions are in place.
