Woman arrested in 10-year search for missing Mayo woman

Sandra Collins went missing from Killala, Co Mayo, in early December 2000.

GARDAÍ INVESTIGATING THE disappearance of a woman from Killala, Co Mayo, ten years ago have arrested a 21-year-old woman.

Twenty-nine-year-old Sandra Collins was last seen at a takeaway in Killala, Co May, on the night of 4 December 2000.

Earlier this month, gardaí renewed their appeal for information about Collins’ whereabouts, saying that new witnesses had recently come forward and investigators believed a white van was in Killala around the time of her disappearance.

When last seen, Collins was wearing black trousers, a marroon polo neck jumper, a beige sleeveless hooded jacket and black boots. She was born in 1971 and is described as being 5′ tall with a slim build, and her short brown hair had red highlights.

Gardaí say they arrested a woman today in the Ballina area and she is currently being held under Section 30 Offences Against the State Act 1939.
