Woman has four teeth knocked out during violent assault in Limerick

The incident occurred last Friday evening in the city.

GARDAÍ IN LIMERICK city have appealed for witnesses after a young woman had four of her teeth knocked out in a punch from a man.

Gardaí said today that the violent assault took place on Catherine Street, last Friday 8 September, at 7.30pm.

“It happened on Catherine Street when a female was beckoned over to a car. She believed that the male driver needed directions, but instead he punched her into the mouth, knocking out four of her teeth and causing a nose bleed,” a garda spokeswoman said.

Gardaí said they had no description of the man or the car, other than it “may have been a dark car”.

“Gardaí in Henry Street are looking for any witnesses to this assault and can be contacted on 061-212400,” the garda added.

Meanwhile, gardaí also appealed for information about a separate incident, on the previous day, Thursday 7 September, when a young woman was robbed at knife point as she took a mid-morning stroll along the Canal Bank, near Grove Island.

“It happened last Thursday at approximately 11.45am. The young lady was walking along the canal when she was approached from behind by a male.”

He produced a knife and demanded her phone, which she handed over, and he then ran off.

“This is a very popular walking route and gardaí in Mayorstone are asking anyone who was in the Canal Bank area or Grove Island area, last Thursday, just before midday, to contact them on 061-456980 if they can recall anybody acting out of the ordinary in the area,” the garda added.

Both incidents are being treated separately by gardaí, and are not believed to be linked.
