Woman dies in Mayo house fire

Gardaí are investigating the circumstances of the blaze in which a 62-year-old woman died.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING the circumstances of a house fire in Mayo overnight in which a 62-year-old woman died.

The blaze broke out shortly before 5am in Convent Hill Crescent in Ballina.

The house was engulfed in smoke when emergency services arrived.

The 62-year-old, who was the only occupant of the house at the time, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The alarm was raised when a family member returned to the home before 5am and discovered the fire had broken out.
