Woman killed, child seriously injured in Mullingar crash

Gardaí appealing for witnesses to two-vehicle crash at Ballagh this evening.

A WOMAN HAS died following a two-vehicle collision at Ballagh on the Delvin Road outside Mullingar this evening.

The woman, aged in her 40s, was driving one of the vehicles which crashed at around 6pm and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two girls who were travelling as passengers in that car, aged 14 and seven, were taken to Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar.

The younger child is described as being in critical condition. The teenager suffered minor injures in the crash.

The driver and sole occupant of the second vehicle was a man aged in his 40s. He was taken to Tallaght Hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The road is currently closed to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to any witnesses to contact Mullingar Garda Station on 044 938 4000, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
