A WOMAN HAS died following a two-vehicle collision at Ballagh on the Delvin Road outside Mullingar this evening.
The woman, aged in her 40s, was driving one of the vehicles which crashed at around 6pm and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two girls who were travelling as passengers in that car, aged 14 and seven, were taken to Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar.
The younger child is described as being in critical condition. The teenager suffered minor injures in the crash.
The driver and sole occupant of the second vehicle was a man aged in his 40s. He was taken to Tallaght Hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The road is currently closed to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing to any witnesses to contact Mullingar Garda Station on 044 938 4000, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, or any garda station.

That’s the second fatal crash within ten miles in a week.
This is really terrible. That N52 road is treacherous, I drive it regularly and there are some serious twists and turns on it. Such a tragedy for that poor family.

This is terrible…its getting unfortunately like the lotto..” it could be you” When will we get absolute root cause of these preventable and avoidable accidents..i want to see RSA ads released to show what are the sequence of events that lead up to these terrible outcomes…so that hopefully no one has to suffer anymore…like for example my friend last year flipped over his car into ditch bounced across the road upside down into a wall…turns out he was texting me at the time..it was a free text but the text really cost ?30,000 but fortunately he was grand…thats how easy this stuff happens….true story..

There doing a new road in the area, the have disrupted the lines etc, it’s a terrible road at the moment, I drove from cinema last night and mirror got clipped by vehicle coming from Delvin side… Bloody mayhem at the moment…. RIP
Very sad. R.I.P to the lady in question and thoughts and prayers to the family. Hope the little kid pulls through. Unimaginable! :(
god bless her. i will pray for the children. doesn’t matter about the road being dangerous its a tragedy and people feel sorrow. thats a good thing it means you feel pain when someone loses life. rip to the lady. god love her family.
yea pretty terrible road every turn is a bad bend with chevron signs insane the way some people go around a corner on the wrong side of the road i see it every day what are they thinking!?
