Quick-thinking pier walker rescues woman in water using a dog leash

The incident took place in Dun Laoghaire earlier today.

A QUICK-THINKING MEMBER of the public saved a woman in danger of drowning using a dog leash.

The incident unfolded at Dún Laoghaire just after 4pm this afternoon, when a woman got into difficulty in the water at the West Pier.

She was spotted by two members of the public walking on the pier at the time, one of which pulled the woman, aged in her fifties, out of the water using a dog leash.

The Coast Guard unit, the Dun Loaghaire RNLI, along with harbour police and a fire brigade unit, responded to the incident.

The woman was stabilised at the scene and taken to hospital.
