A SHIP OPERATED by the Maersk cargo company has set a record for the most containers ever carried on a vessel.
The Triple-E Mary Maersk left Algeciras, Spain on its journey on 21 July, bound for the port of Tanjung Pelepas in Malaysia.
On board were 17,603 20ft containers.
“Algeciras has been preparing for full utilisation of the Triple-E for more than a year,” Carlos Arias of head of the South Europe Liner Operations Cluster said.
This included the upgrading of four existing cranes and the arrival of four new Triple-E cranes.
The Malaysian port has had to make similar upgrades — and this was the first occasion where both ends were ready.
Maersk Line’s Triple-E vessel has set a world record by carrying 17,603 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) between Europe and Asia.
More than half of the containers on board were empty — but were being shipped back to Asia for future use.
The rest of the shipment contained everything from Danish cheese and German beef to pharmaceutical products and flower bulbs from the Netherlands.
The ship has a full nominal capacity of 18,270 — but so far that capacity hasn’t been utilised.

In the past few weeks statements made by government Minister’s, the comment section has been closed. The taking down of comments that contain no personal or unacceptable comment but would have been critical of government have been removed. Bit hypocritical of the Journal.

But I think it was about the 70 year old assaulted in clare? I don’t know the circumstances of the assault but I’m guessing your employing it was done by anti mass immigration protestors….do you have proof of this? But let’s say it’s true I have no idea….I abhor violence against anyone unless its done for defensive reasons….if this 70 year old man was attacked by one of the protestors….then I would condemned such an attack as that infringes on the right of the 70 year old not to be assaulted for no reason…
