PHOTOS: This is what the largest atlas in the world looks like

The atlas weighs in at more than 23 stone and each page is almost 2 metres high.

IT’S QUITE A bit larger than the atlases we remember from primary school – but for good reason.

Adjudicators from the Guinness World Records today measured Earth Platinum, the largest atlas ever, at the British Library in London.

The atlas weighs 150 kgs (over 23 stone), with every page measuring 1.8 metres high and 1.4 metres wide, and has claimed its place in the Guinness book of World Records. Hopefully some kid doesn’t have to carry this in their schoolbag anytime soon…

How many trees did they cut down and how many ink cartridges did they waste on making the Atlas. Waste of time and a waste of money.

What about thousands of supermarket flyers distributed to houses daily? I’d rather let them print a massive informative Atlas, than all those advertisement flyers.

I think it’s significant that the tagline on the home page said ” weighs in at more than 23 stone and each page is almost 2 metres high”. Why not “weighs in at over 150kg and each page is almost 2 metres high”?

Are the maps themselves the same as in The Times atlas?
