A massive sexism row has led to Zoo Magazine being pulled from an Australian supermarket

The whole country is talking about it.

LADS’ MAG ZOO Weekly has been pulled from the shelves of a prominent Australian supermarket following a massive campaign down under about its content.

Coles supermarket announced the removal of the mag from its shops yesterday, saying it was a commercial decision.

The hashtag #BinZooMag had become popular on social media in Australia over the last few months

petition was set up to take it out of the Woolworths supermarket chain

The petition has received over 39,000 signatures so far, with the reasoning of the anti-Zoo campaign being:

There’s tips to coerce girls into having sex using alcohol. They use photos of young girls lifted from teen porn sites. Promotions for best shot of your girlfriend’s breasts.
That’s what’s inside Zoo magazine – and it’s still sitting on the shelves of Woolworths as “family friendly” products. It sits next to kids magazines.

One employee of Coles supermarket was said to have made a complaint about having to sell the magazine

As Mashable reports this morning, Coles say that there is no direct link between the removal of the lads mag and the campaign. But Collective Shout, above, who started it aremost certainly claiming it as a win – and have started a national conversation on the issue.

The main focus of the campaign was for the staff of those supermarkets

And the content of the magazines

The decision has sparked a massive national discussion, with mostly praise on Twitter so far

@JMcB: It should point out it’s actually illegal. Yet our useless Central Bank do not take these companies to task on it.

@FliepFlap: Just because they do not, does not mean we should not tackle it locally, which is Central Banks issue.

@Dave.: You will find that the Central Bank will refer you to the consumer protection agency for enforcement. In reality the agency will strongly ‘recommend’ that the company take action.

@Dave.: Are you sure about that? Revolut has been operating as a fully licensed bank since 24th March 2022. How are the operating illegally?

Describing them as a ‘money app’ is a little insulting. Bit like me describing them AIB and BOI as money leeches

I’ve got all my D Debits set up with LT IBAN and haven’t had any issues with companies accepting it. Only slight issue is you need to fill in a mandate if online form won’t accept.
