A CHINESE SHOPPING centre has turned down an offer to send the “world’s saddest bear” to a wildlife park.

But should the animal be in captivity at all? There are many people who believe that any keeping of animals in enclosures is cruel.

Proponents of zoos argue that they help protect species, breed animals and educate the public on poaching, habitat loss and preservation.
