Cork claim All Ireland JFC final spot

Andrew O’Brien scored the Rebels’ only goal in Manchester.

Cork 1-15
Lancashire 1-9

CORK HAVE BOOKED their place in the All Ireland Junior football final with a convincing six point win over Lancashire in London today.

The Rebels had named a strong starting XV for the clash in Old Bedians with goalkeeper David Hanrahan part of the Cork U21 side who lost the All Ireland final to Galway last April while full back Eoin O’Mahony played with the senior side during this year’s League campaign.

The two sides exchanged scores in the early stages before six unanswered points before half time  gave them a 0-11 to 0-3 lead at the interval.

A goal for Lancashire – who came into the game on the back of their fourth All Britain Championship in a row – 11 minutes into the second half brought them back within five points.

However, the Munster champions replied with a goal of their own when Andrew O’Brien forced the umpire to raise the green flag just a few minutes later.

Despite a late run of points from the Manchester based outfit, Lancashire weren’t able to get close and so it’s Cork who’ll advance to the final.
