1. #SHOOTING: Gardaí are today investigating a shooting that took place in the Fairhill area of Cork last night. A 20-year-old man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and gardaí are now appealing for witnesses.
2, #BERRIES: The Food Safety Authority was first told about the risk of contracting Hepatitis A from frozen berries by European watchdogs as far back as April, the Irish Daily Mail has revealed. The FSAI decided not to give any warning because the cases identified at the time were in Scandinavia, though three people in Ireland that month began showing symptoms of the virus.
3. #BELFAST: An Orange Order parade is due to take place in North Belfast later today. RTÉ reports that the Count Grand Master of Belfast has urged those taking part to protest peacefully and disperse when asked to do so by police, amid fears of a return to last weekend’s scenes of violence.

4. #HOWTH: Gardaí are investigating a possible incidence of arson yesterday evening after a trawler in Howth pier, Dublin, was set on fire. No one was on board the boat at the time and the scene is now preserved pending a forensic and technical examination to determine the cause.
5. #DROUGHT: We never thought we’d say this, but the country is now in a drought. The Irish Independent reports today that at least ten local authorities have had to cut off or restrict water supplies at night and more councils are to follow suit as the heatwave continues. So back away from the hose before someone gets hurt…
6. #DEBT: Danske Bank will apply on Monday to have its case seeking judgement for loans of almost €2.5 million owed by Minister of State John Perry and his wife, fast-tracked, The Irish Times reports. The bank claims the loan was to be repaid by November 2012 and while the couple had been making some payments, they failed to keep up the level required under the terms.
7. #SPEED: The companies operating the fleet of speed camera vans in the country made profits of almost €50,000 a week last year, the Irish Examiner reports. The vans detect one speeding motorist every hour.
8. #AUSTRALIA: Police at an Australian-run immigration detention camp on the island state of Nauru have restored calm after riots broke out yesterday, BBC reports. The riot was sparked by the Australian Prime Minister’s announcement that asylum-seekers arriving by boat will now be processed through Papua New Guinea for assessment.
9. #SEX: A new study has indicated that a sexual addiction may not be a mental disorder at all and could simply be linked to a high libido. The study found that brain responses of people with the ‘addiction’ to sexual images were not related in any way to the severity of their hypersexuality, but instead were tied to their level of sexual desire.
