Aer Lingus Regional fleet. PR360

Aer Lingus Regional adds 50 extra UK flights including new route to Newcastle

The airline also announced the addition of 10,000 seats to London Southend due to increased popularity with the route.

AER LINGUS REGIONAL today announced that they will be adding an additional 100,000 seats for winter, 50 flights per week and a new route from Dublin to Newcastle Airport.

There will also be increase of 10 per cent to services in Cork.

The 50 extra weekly flights will be added on Aer Lingus Regional services from Dublin to Aberdeen, Bristol, Cardiff and Glasgow, with another eight weekly flights added from Cork to Birmingham and Manchester.

New route

The new route to Newcastle will operate two daily return flights from Dublin.

Aer Arann’s Chief Commercial Officer, Simon Fagan said that the addition of Newcastle to the network and extra flights to Aberdeen, Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, Birmingham and Manchester, is the next step in the growth plan of AerArann which will provide further options for passengers flying to the UK.

The airline also announced that they would be adding 10,000 additional seats to London Southend.

The airlines new aircrafts will operate flights to the London Southend, with Aer Arann ordering eight new aircrafts earlier this year as part of a €144 million deal with ATR, the world’s largest manufacturer of regional aircraft.

Mr Fagan added:

We recently welcomed the government’s announcement of the removal of the travel tax from April 2014 which will help Aer Arann grow its network further and reach its goal of  carrying 1.4 million passengers by 2014.

Aer Lingus Regional is operated by Aer Arann.

Nothing from Shannon? If I didn’t know any better I’d swear Aer Lingus is holding a personal grudge against Shannon Airport and there is a hidden agenda somewhere. The stand off with the Shannon based Aer Lingus cabin crew prove my point. For years if you wanted to fly Aer Lingus in or out of Shannon the fares were more or less double that of Dublin. Oh well, Aer Lingus loss is Ryanair’s gain.

You make it sound like Aer Lingus don’t want people to travel to Shannon, in truth people don’t want to fly to Shannon or Aer Lingus would fly there.

People don’t want to fly from Dublin you mean. The Island we live on is named Ireland, not Dublin. Dublin airport is not very user friendly and that even goes for the new terminal 2 which cost the Irish taxpayer over inflated building costs. At the time of construction, there were more brown envelopes landing in corrupt peoples pockets involved in the building than planes landing at Dublin airport.

Ryanair added hundreds of thousands of seats in Shannon last week. Not everything is about Shannon. Occasionally, there may be airlines who want to add capacity to Dublin, Cork or Knock and they won’t always feel the need to throw a sop to Shannon.

Plus, that Ryanair deal makes it a lot less likely that anyone will expand from Shannon.

Aer Lingus cabin crew at Shannon are the likely cause of this. The company announced 40 new jobs there, but is now cutting 80 due to pampered cabin crew not wanting to give up well expensed overnights in Manhattan

I love flying from Shannon, mainly because it is so quiet! No queues, easy parking, no traffic, etc. Having said, it could easily take double the current number of passengers and it would still be a oy to travel through.

Tiger – when you are speaking of Deutschland, do you say Germany, or The Federal Republic of Germany? There is Ireland, and then there is a part of the United Kingdom called Northern Ireland that is on the same island.

They need to get you to the aircraft min 20mins before the aircraft is due to start engines. Last time I used them the gate closed 30mins before departure time, the norm for most airlines, thus giving the bus 10mins to get to the plane. These aircraft are wasted at the gates as the air bridge can’t be used on them.
