The programme will be called the Anton Savage Show and will be sponsored by Toyota. The first show will air in the coming weeks, the radio station confirmed this morning.
Speaking on the programme, which was being guest presented by Neil Delamere today, Savage said the new show will have “a fair blend of stuffs – relationships, a small bit of sex… I’m told it sells so we’ll drop it in”.
“There is going to be health, there will be quirky items.”
He noted that there will be probably be fewer items about running “because I’m not much for the running”.
CEO Peter McPartlin said Savage was chosen out of a shortlist of candidates.
“Anton has proven himself to be a highly versatile broadcaster and, most importantly, a firm favourite with our listeners,” he said.
Betting had already been suspended on who was going to take over the role after receiving a number of three figure bets in favour of Savage.

The broadcaster has presented The Ray D’Arcy Show, The Last Word, Ireland AM and The Tubridy Show, as well as hosting The Sunday Business Show and ‘The Apprentice, you’re fired!’ on TV3.
His first job was as a researcher with TodayFM. So, he’s ‘going home’ too, we guess.

The announcement has received a mostly-positive reaction on Twitter so far.
Anton Savage will be Ray D'arcys replacement on Today FM... Good move, I like that lad

Can’t stand him and his patronising mother terry prone. Oh god from having an annoying c u next Tuesday to a complete an utter self obsessed fe(ker. Just listen to him talking about what he was driving can’t be made any more annoying. Or maybe it can as I switch stations as soon as I hear him. Did I mention I don’t like him.
That’s good news, enjoy listening to him! Have a disliking to D’arcy since 2009 when he repeatedly announced “it’s official, were in a recession” a million times one morning, he appeared almost happy about it while the arse fell out of the world for most of us. Anyway looking forward to listening to him and good riddance to Ray
Yeah Ray D’Arcy got tedious and repetitive very quickly indeed. Anton Savage is a much better and well rounded presenter. Ray was far too condescending.
I thought it was funny when for the past few weeks Today FM were advertising the presenter position on air and suggesting people should submit CV’s. Sure it was obvious they had long made up their mind who would replace Ray.
Love if they brought back Sam Smyth. Was really disappointed then they gave him the boot. I miss Ed’s tails of representing the rich and famous. Savage is a tad greasy.
I have tuned out of today fm over the past while, to much chopping and changing with presenters of different shows. Tony Fenton and Ray Darcy could not be replaced too easily. especially with louise duffy and anton savage. Find myself listening to 4fm a lot more now. I turn on matt cooper and Ian Dempsey alright. Alison Curtis is simply annoying, as is Louise Duffy, I heard neil delamere on at some stage this week aswell. whats happening Today FM, whats happening.
I have heard a few people say that about him, but I still think he is a great broadcaster. I have never heard him not ask a tough question, the Danny Healy Rae “interview” being just one example.
He also ruined countless interviews by making things incredibly awkward.
He explained every single joke just to prove he got it.
Flat out refused to let anybody take the mickey out of him.
He never took ownership for his own opinions. Instead would always say “we” instead of “I”. Like he was speaking on behalf of Ireland.
And sometimes, he was just plain rude. Always remember that interview with the emerdale cast. A woman said she loved Ireland, and he almost bit her head off calling her patronising.
9-12 was genuinely the worst 3 hours in work because my bosses wife forced us to listen to him.
Agreed Brian. Only show I listen to on Today FM is Ian Dempsey’s breakfast show, mainly for Gift Grub and the music but there is usually a good bit of banter as well. Not a big fan of talk shows, prefer music so I mostly listen to Classis Hits 4FM or Radio Nova. The only gripe I have with these stations though is they have both changed over to the 2 presenters formula for their breakfast shows. This usually consist of annoying people talking a lot and thinking they are funny. Scott Williams on Q102 is a very good alternative to Dempsey’s breakfast show.
I agree, when I started listening to that station it was excellent with eamon dunphy, Sam smyth etc. now it’s just a collection of TY students let loose at the microphone. Anton tries much too hard to prove how clever he is and loves to talk all over his guests does my head in, how can a person who talks so fast get a job in broadcasting. Matt cooper and Ian Dempsey are the only ones worth listening to.
They made clear that they were considering t candidates from both within the organisation and outside. What could be more fair and reasonable than that? RTE wouldn’t have even bothered with the advert unless they were legally obliged to.
In his discussions on health,i wonder will he discuss mental health. And the bullying aspect of this in the workplace. Workplaces such as Communications clinic. Terry Prone pulls some more strings.Or maybe Tom Savage did. His silence and involvement in Kate Fitzgerald story renders his opinion on any topic irrelevant and disgusting.
Now Mark, he was only a senior director of the cc at the time of the alleged bullying of Kate Fitzgerald… did you not get the journal’s memo from the communication clinic? don’t mention this in relation to the golden child, or you will be sued. Allegedly alleged.
For the benefit of balance, impartiality, & transparency, listeners to his show should be made aware of the clients which he does PR & Lobbying work for through the Communications Clinic. Perhaps this information could be detailed on the Today FM website for his show?
No it’s not Morning Ireland, but no doubt the management of Today FM would like it to be. Don’t forget that Ray D’Arcy jumped ship to Radio 1. The same rules should apply to all National stations.
I always thought anton wasn’t real I just assumed he was an action man figure with white gloss paint added in essential areas with a robot engine inside
I can’t believe he is a humanoid
Anton Savage deserves this opportunity he is a class act, a brilliant broadcaster. I just hope Mairead Farrell stays off the air she turned me off the Darcy show, she never came across as genuine..
Ya, and her fake, completely over-the-top cackle whenever there was a guest she fancied in the studio. I noticed it was especially bad whenever Andrew Maxwell was around. Every couple of words out of his mouth and she would erupt. Like a teenage girl looking for notice.
“Ms Fox said she complained of the alleged bullying to Anton Savage, the company’s managing director and Ms Prone’s son.
“I was shaking like a leaf, I was terrified I suppose,” she said when asked by her barrister how she felt when she told Mr Savage of the alleged abuse.
Ms Fox said she was given a copy of the company’s grievance procedure, but that she felt she was being “interrogated” by Mr Savage about the allegations after she submitted them in writing.
“He told me he had spent five company days working on it and that cost €15,000 and that he was doing this now,” she told her legal representative, Niamh McGowan BL, adding that Mr Savage was “sarcastic” in his responses to her.”
I listen to the radio all the time
The minute these jumped up presenters start waffling I turn over.
I’m just saying that it doesn’t need to be headline news
