Here's where you can sign a book of condolence for the Paris victims

PRESIDENT MICHAEL D Higgins signed a book of condolence at the French embassy this morning, where a minute’s silence was observed at 11am to mark the victims of Friday’s attacks in Paris.

The President was joined by representatives of the Irish Muslim community including the Imam of the Al-Mustafa Mosque in Blanchardstown, Shaykh Dr Umar Al-Qadi.

President Higgins and the French ambassador, Jean-Pierre Thebault, led the minute’s silence outside the embassy.

It’s reported that the crowd sang a spontaneous rendition of the French national anthem after the minute’s silence.

President Higgins noted that today marks the UN International Day of Tolerance and said the world must do more to embrace the differences between communities.

A book of condolences has now been opened to the public in front of the French Embassy, 66 Fitzwilliam Lane, Dublin 2. A book was also opened in the Pro-Cathedral in Dublin on Saturday morning.

Clare

A condolence book is open at the corporate offices of Clare County Council, Áras Contae an Chláir, Ennis. It will stay open during office hours until Friday November 27.

Cork 

A book of condolences opened in the City Hall today.

Galway

A book of condolences opened at the City Hall at 10am this morning, while a book is also opened at the chapel of National University Galway.

Limerick

A condolence book will be opened at the Alliance Française in Limerick, 7 Pery Square, today and tomorrow from 9.30 to 2pm.

Limerick City and County Council also opened books of condolences at 10am this morning in the council headquarters on Merchants Quay and in the atrium of the council in Dooradoyle.

Waterford 

A book of condolence was opened in City Hall Waterford and the Civic offices in Dungarvan at 9:30 this morning and will remain open for the week.

Wexford

A book of condolences was opened in the library in Gorey this morning.

Online

People can also send online messages of solidarity to this dedicated email address: jesuisparisireland@gmail.com

The French embassy added that unless a person indicates otherwise, it will publish the messages anonymously on its website.

    @Gillian Scully: Probably not much. The reason they went mad was because they could buy in bulk at a discounted rate and get a number of jars for the price they’d usually pay for 1. Can’t imagine one jar would garner much interest.

    If they could sell it at reduced price, and still make a profit, why are they selling it at the original price? Sales frenzy and prices just baffles me. I like them though but I always feel cheated at the same time.

    They are probably clearing the stock of the Original – Real Nutella – before bringing in the new recipe one with the cheaper ingredients.

    Maybe the real reason?

    ps. Debenhams Blanch was selling it for €3 when their custom label printer ran out of paper – but there was loads of them on the shelf with few takers.
