The International Olympic Committee has said the fact Jenner competed as a man when winning a gold medal in the decathlon at the 1976 Olympic Games, breaking a world record in the process, will have no effect on the title.
The IOC confirmed its stance after a petition was started calling for Jenner’s medal to be revoked.

Mark Adams, IOC Communications Director, told the UK Independent: “Bruce Jenner won his gold medal at the 1976 Olympic Games and there is no issue for the IOC.”
More than 13,700 people had signed the petition at the time of publication.
It has recently come to light that gold medalist Bruce Jenner is in fact transgender, and therefore, identifies as a woman. We congratulate Ms. Jenner on these new developments and wish her the best. However, this creates somewhat of a problem as Ms. Jenner (as talented as she is) claims that she has always believed herself to be truly female, and therefore, was in violation of committee rules regarding women competing in men’s sports and vice versa.
Therefore, it is with a heavy heart that we must ask whether or not it is proper that Ms. Jenner should retain her olympic records in light of this, as we must now either claim that Bruce Jenner and Caitlyn Jenner are two entirely different people (which we know is not true), or that Bruce Jenner was, in fact, a woman participating in a men’s event. It is only fair to all involved that women receive their credit as champions of the Decathalon and that the men racing Ms. Jenner are not expected to compete with a superior, streamlined being such as herself.
We urge Ms. Jenner to support the transgender community by giving up the medals earned by competing against the wrong gender.
Thank you, and congratulations to Ms. Jenner for her courage!
Jenner publicly revealed herself as Caitlyn for the first time this week on the cover of Vanity Fair, receiving widespread praise – including this comment from US President Barack Obama:

Why are they idiots? He’s either always been a female in which case he shouldn’t have been eligible for male Olympics or he’s just playing dress up and is still really a male?
Ailbhe I am not naive enough to swallow the absolute crock the LGBT’s and their ally’s on the left are trying to sell us. He was a man when he was dominating the Olympic field and he’s still a man now no matter what he calls himself.
Ailbhe, I’ve said this before (and this from someone who would fully support transgender identity changes). Bruce/Caitlyn has stated they will never have transitioning operations, but will only dress , act and identify as a women. They have that right, but it is not transgender in the traditional sense (I.e. due to either bring genetically transgender or bi-gender or an overwhelming desire to change physically from one to the other). What they are experiencing is an extreme form of being transvestite, and not having that reverting back part, but for all intents and purposes, they are no more transgender than Panti, but never leaves character (which I suspect is mainly due to the media attention more than gender identity)
Panto does not identify as female Panto is a character. Caitlyn is not. Her choice not to undergo surgery may not be because she wants the option of ‘turning back’, it may be for health reasons.
How somebody identifies is the issue, not what they wear.
Not really. They (see, I’m being respectful) want to be publicly portrayed as a woman, but still (in their own words) still want to have sex with women as a man – that’s not transgender, that’s a transvestite. I know Panti goes out of character, but while the wig is on, she is a she. My opinion is Bruce/Caitlyn is a character with personality issues, not transgender.
If a male wins gold at an olympic event (or any competition) AND then becomes a woman.. can she then compete as a woman? Easy road to multiple gold medals.
The word “Cake” is a new one for me in this context, all things considered. Of course don’t try and teach your grandma to suck eggs could slso fit in there somewhere
Joe ridiculous comment to make ! He may have wished to be a woman but was biologically male! He won his medals fair and square. She now has has the opportunity to live her true calling and fair play to her! This has absolutely nothing to do with his Olympic achievements it is totally irrelevant. Ridiculous to try and strip this athlete of the gold medal ! What a low tacky stance to take
Brave woman, it takes strength to be who you really are and not care what anyone thinks. Most people live in a small box out of fear of what others would think if they were true to themselves.
There is endless comments from Americans comparing Caitlyn to Soldiers who have lost limbs etc with the question “what is true courage”. It drives me mad! Yes Soldiers are brave and courageous, doesn’t lessen what Bruce did and what Caitlyn is now doing.
Cop on to yourself. There were numerous cars involved in the accident. Just because SHE was involved, doesn’t mean SHE caused it. And second of all, I’m sure the children have bigger concerns at the moment.
He was Bruce at the time when he rear ended that car causing it to be struck by a hummer , but he’s now so “brave” everything is forgiven .
I wonder where his mind was on that day when he should have been driving safer .
Authorities haven’t determined who was at fault of the crash. Maybe the other driver stopped suddenly and she didn’t have time to react. She identifies herself as female now, so the pronoun ‘she’ is always used when discussing her, past and present.
He dresses like a woman with fake breasts , he’s a drag /drama queen nothing more, he’s kept his tackle intact ” just in case ” , he’s a narcissist just like his fake step family ,
Ailbhe how is that disrespect , it is what it is !! It’s a bloke ,I’m just stating a fact , dress him up as much as ya like , it’s just a bloke who came out of hes closet in high style drama
Ailbhe there are no deeper issues , I’m a man , not a woman . You’re a woman and not a man. Day is light and dark is night , Bruce was born a man and HE will die a man , he’s mental state is claiming he’s a woman , I’m stating a fact , he’s not brave , far from it . People need to cop on big time
Nope, not a fact. A lack of understanding. For example, dark is not always night. It can be indoors, in a cave, an eclypse. Light can mean local fire, artificial light, any number or things.
I think you attempted to articulate some sort of mental issue, if so, again you are wrong. Try researching it, it’s a fascinating topic.
Lol. My comments being removed because I said he’s a bloke !! All the comments saying he’s a woman left there. What a laugh ! Says a lot about the journal alright.
No that’s just the superficial aspect of your original post, there’s much more to your clear prejudice that only education and a willingness to learn would help. I suspect the latter is not present…
Captain Ireland I thank God you don’t captain my ship with your intolerance and disrespect! That black and white stance you take is one who must live the dullest of existences! It is obviously beyond your comprehension that people can be tramped in the the wrong body. Grow up and expand your narrow mind
She is brave because, after 65 years, she is finally being who she always wanted to be, despite knowing how small minded people like you will judge her. Hopefully this will help others who are in a similar situation as her, but clearly there is a lot to be done with society acceptance.
It’s an act of courage to share her story with the public so other transgendered people can also be inspired to be their true self. And like marriage equality for gays, celebrities supporting this helps humanise the debate away from them and us to a realisation we are all “us” – ijiia process that crosses the bridge of prejudice to the promised land of equality.
The men’s current WR total is higher than the women’s. In fact, Jenner’s lowest world record total is higher than the current women’s WR total. Given that athletes today have the benefit of superior training methods, surely it makes Jenner’s achievements all the more remarkable if you want to insist it was a woman competing against men
The sad thing about Bruce is I believe he was turned while living with all them goddess in that house. They put a spell on him. But Bruce I’ve got news for you. Your never going to have tits and ass like all your daughters and step daughters!!!!
It never fails to amaze me how much time some people have on their hands. There are the two people who challenged the referendum and will be crippled with costs and now this crowd spouting about Caitlyn Jenner. They must have nothing in their lives to worry them.
