Want to break a world record for throwing a Christmas tree?

Get ready for this year’s competition, taking place on 8 January.

IF YOU BOUGHT a real Christmas tree this year, it’s now probably sitting in the corner of your living room looking a bit sad, waiting to be unceremoniously chucked in the bin.

But there’s a better way – some Christmas trees go out in style.

This year marks Clare’s sixth annual Christmas tree throwing competition, due to take place on Sunday, 8 January, and members of the public are invited to come along to try their hand at setting a Guinness World Record.

Last year Limerick man John O’Dea reclaimed the record by throwing a tree a winning distance of 8.6 metres.

The charity event is organised by Clare County Council, with the help of Active Ennis Sports and Leisure Facilities. All proceeds from the events will go to Rape Crisis Midwest.

Organisers say each participant – and people of all ages are welcome to take part – will be given three chances to throw a standard 1.5 meter tree.

Several European countries, notably Germany and Austria, have traditions relating to Christmas tree throwing as a way to get rid of the unwanted leftover.

The Irish Christmas Tree Throwing Championship takes place on Sunday 8 January 2017, between 1.00 p.m. to 3.00 p.m at Active Ennis Tim Smyth Park, Ennis.

They are certainly right from their point of view their not even in the euro, its regulation we need rather than rescue. Noone knows this better than the Swedes having had their own banking crash in the 90′s

Because proper banking supervision may well have helped prevent some of the property bubble and most if not all of the banking crash.

I have to agree with the swedes. They have a great country- why should they allow themselves to be dragged down by other countries.
