Top comments of the week

Did you make the cut?

EVERY SATURDAY MORNING we take a look at all the best comments left on the site by our readers over the past seven days.

This week there was a lot of talk about Siteserv, same-sex marriage and Denmark’s rules on bestiality.

So here, in no particular order, are the standout comments from the week that was.

The 5 most popular comments this week

1. Charles Rex got 2,731 green thumbs for this comment about Breda O’Brien’s thoughts on why gay couples should abstain from sex.

Breda should abstain from commenting.

2. This week, Denmark voted to ban bestiality in a bid to crack down on “animal sex tourism”. Glen got 1,994 green thumbs.

I don’t know what is worse
People shagging dogs or 75 Danish MP’s being ok with it.

3. Referring to Natasha McShane’s attacker who got 90 years in prison for his crime, Mary Carey received 1,772 thumbs up for this comment.

A sentence fitting for the crime. Unlike the nonsense that goes on here.

4. David Garland is not impressed with health insurance policies. Neither are 1,288 of you.

Eh the taxpayers of this Country fund the health system already.. We provide the Hospitals, Doctors and Nurses.. Why should we have to take out private health insurance.. It’s another double tax..

5. We – and 1,270 of our readers – enjoyed this from Neil.

If there was a snap election I’d vote for ‘Rhythm is a Dancer’.

Jonathan Pitre, a teenager with a rare genetic condition, inspired a lot of you this week, including Clare Waldron:

The poor guy. His strength and determination is incredible. Really puts your own problems into perspective

Keith Maguire argues for a fairer system of social welfare:

It shouldn’t be based on your age. It should be based on your employment history. Anyone can lose their job and find themselves in financial difficulty, even a 20 year old. The dole should start at a high rate for those who have been in employment. It can be reduced for every month you are on it to encourage you to find new employment quickly.
And nobody should be able to claim welfare from cradle to grave without having to contribute back to society unless they have some disability that prevents them from doing so. It’s a strange society we have where a waster can start claiming from the age of 18, having contributed nothing, yet a self employed person, who has fallen on hard times and has contributed thousands in prsi and tax, has to jump through hoops to get a little help.

Paul Moore shared a great ‘overheard on the Luas’ story. We predict a career in advertising:

A few weeks ago I overheard a couple of ‘ladies’ on the Luas Red Line discussing why they don’t go shoplifting in Penny’s anymore when one said ‘Sure why would you need to at the prices they charge’. I think Penny’s should use this for their next advertising campaign :)

Our article on the 30 hottest young politicos left An Observer with one burning question:

Is this what Tinder looks like?

Meanwhile, a McDonald’s story brought out the pun-ny best in John S:

It was an aporkalypse really….

oirish-1-630x367 Belmond Belmond

mcgoo had a valid question about the ‘Irish Orient Express’:

The only burning question I have is: will you have to change Luxury trains in Mallow for Killarney?

There was controversy over our definitive ranking of Irish beards, with Lisa D stating:

You missed the bearded barman in The Globe. That’s quite a beard. Also Shane Lynch was robbed – it’s miles better than Dornan’s chin-cosy

Finally, it emerged james isn’t that mad about Ben Affleck asking a programme not to mention his slave-owning ancestor. He does have another gripe with him though:

He owes more of an apology for Daredevil.
