Almost 500 jobs on the way for Dungloe, Donegal

Randox Teoranta is investing €25 million in its plant in the town.

A GLOBAL HEALTHCARE company that currently employs 66 people at its plant in Dungloe, Donegal, is to hire almost 500 people over the next half-decade.

Randox Teoranta is investing €25 million in its plant in the town, the company has confirmed. The firm is part of global diagnostics group Randox Laboratories.

Minister of State and Donegal TD Joe McHugh has welcomed the announcement, saying it will have benefits for the entire region.

“This commitment to the surrounding communities will act as a new roadmap, allowing us to position the region as a centre of excellence in the fields of engineering and life sciences,” McHugh said.

“The relationship between the third level sectors will be critical to driving forward the ambitious plans here in Dungloe.”

Have to say I’ve never heard of Dungloe , but great to hear of such a large investment in a county that has really suffered during the recession

The MFD festival is sponsored by Randox as well, so they do help the community as well as invest in the people. A much needed investment.

Great news.. I hope to be proven wrong but will it be the same as all the other companies who move in and then clear out when the grant money from the IDA, Udaras, etc. is gone.. West Donegal in particular has really been neglected by successive governments.

Yeah I’m sure there are 500 qualified people in the town just waiting for them to arrive. 5 years to recruit 500 qualified people for a small enough company is a reasonable pace. You have to get the right people and have them willing to move to the town. 8 people a month would take a fair bit of work.

Seeing is believing. And what jobs are they exactly? It does not say.

There seems to be a catch in that McHugh said “The relationship between the third level sectors will be critical to driving forward the ambitious plans here in Dungloe.” Some work to do and some distance to go. We should focus efforts on not losing jobs too, though it is not glamorous and ministers and TDs cannot get on a platform and gain extensive media coverage.

    Seeing is believing though.
