Shame on you Brendan Smith for the cowardly act of agreeing to allow GM ingredients in food for sale in the Irish marketplace. The timing of this agreement is incredible – in the midst of Election fever you sign away our food safety and hardly a mention is made of it!

I disagree that this will be tolerated – “THE OUTGOING MINISTER for Agriculture has said that the sale of food products made from genetically modified ingredients will be tolerated in Ireland.”
Did you even consider the labeling of this food might be a contentious issue?

Brendan Smith has said today in a statement that Ireland had “altered its voting position” and will back proposals from the EU Commission “aimed at authorising the placing on the market of food, food ingredients and feed containing, consisting of, or produced from genetically modified maize and cotton”.

I was always under the impression that Minister smith did nothing in the agriculture ministry. I now stand corrected, by sneeking in this concession on GMs he has activly damaged our struggling agri-food sector.
