Derry Canty

4
Party: Fine Gael
Constituency: Cork North West

Fine Gael candidate Derry Canty will be hoping to replicate his strong record in local politics as he challenges for a seat in Cork North-West. Canty was originally elected as Progressive Democrat candidate to Cork County Council in 1991 and has been re-elected on three occasions subsequently. Canty's only previous tilt at national politics came when he unsuccessfully ran as an independent candidate in 1997.

Canty, who bears a resemblance to former minister Batt O'Keefe, claims to have been harangued by constituents with complaints about Fianna Fáil policy.
