Police officers in New York on September 11, 2001 Nicola McClean

Gallery: Powerful new photos show aftermath of 9/11 attacks

Photographer Nicola McClean was in New York as the twin towers fell – and these previously unseen images show the devastation.

THE ATTACKS ON New York’s World Trade Centre on September 11, 2001 are etched into the memory of many people – but images from that day have lost none of their power to shock.

Dublin-based photographer Nicola McClean was in New York as the twin towers fell, and documented the scenes in the city that day and in the days following. Her previously unseen pictures feature in a new exhibition, Ground Zero 360°, which opened last week at Collins Barracks in Dublin. The exhibition also features artifacts and emergency calls from the attacks, which will see their ten-year anniversary in two weeks’ time.

The exhibition put together by McLean and her husband, former NYPD officer Paul McCormack, will be in Ireland until October 1 when it will make its US premiere at Chicago’s Field Museum.

Hard to imagine a decade has passed. 9/11 is a ‘do you remember where you were when you heard about…’ scenario. The JFK assassination is the event my Dad mentions. He remembers where he was a feared that world war three was imminent.

“So now, the inevitable question: if terrorists didn’t cause 9/11, who did? Remember that there are in fact two towers. Two minus one is one; one one – 11; two minus one is one; one one, and there are nine members on Silverstein’s board of directors. That’s nine-one-one. Nine-eleven. And take 2 – 1 + 9/11 and you get 12, which leads us all to the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks. Kyle!

Twelve contains the numbers one and two, just like the toilet yesterday where somebody went number two instead of number one! And one and two with 911 and you get 914! Drop the 4 and it’s 91! Exactly the score Kyle got on his spelling test twelve days after 9/11! Who has the most to gain from 9/11?! Kyle! Who was nowhere to be found the morning the towers fell?! Kyle! Who dropped the deuce in the urinal?! Kyle! ”

Actually I think this one is by far the best video of 9/11. Its called "102 minutes that changed America"

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfnBXyU9puk&feature=youtube_gdata_player

No conspiracy stuff at all in it, just videos from various people around New York on that day. Truly horrifying some of the footage.

Zeitgeist is probably the best film to do with the 9/11 conspiracies, includes a lot about the banks and global recession as well

Went to see the exhibition on Saturday. Was good. There’s even a small piece of steel from the wreckage of the Trade Centre.

As for that horrible day: it will be forever burned into our memories. Lest us never forget.

The Towers were full of asbestos which, during the fall of the towers was released into the air as dust. Funny that this topic is never really mentioned.
    http://www.asbestosnetwork.com/news/nw_020102_nyc_wtc.htm
Because it takes many years for people to develop asbestos–related diseases such as asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma, the full effects of asbestos contamination in the World Trade Center area may not be apparent at this time.

The damage is still being done.

Ya Kevin. That was a plot in Rescue Me a few years back to highlight the scandal of rescue workers inhaling the fumes from the wreckage of the trade centre.
