A GUNMAN IN Grand Rapids, Michigan has taken his own life after he shot seven people dead, including his own daughter.
The discovery of seven bodies – four in one home and three in other house on the other side of Grand Rapids – escalated into a high speed chase through the town involving police cars and a helicopter, reports Detroit Free Press. The man, who has been named as 34-year-old Rodrick Shonte Dantzler, took three hostages in a home and held them there for hours.
He let one of the hostages – a woman – go after his demand for cigarettes and Gatorade was met reports the New York Times (subscription may be required) and then took his own life by shooting himself in the head.

Earlier he had killed five adults and two children, including his own daughter, while two of the women he shot are believed to have been former girlfriends. Police Chief Kevin Belk has said that the killings appear to have been as a result of a domestic dispute.
Dantzler made a call to his mother at around 3pm yesterday afternoon, and told her that he had killed his wife. Police then found two women and a ten-year-old girl dead at a house, and four more people dead in the basement of another house. One of the four was a child.
Following the police chase which saw Dantzler driving the wrong way on the highway with several cars in pursuit, he jumped out of the vehicle he was driving and ran into a home, where he took his three hostages.

if you agree with sinead or not her intentions were good and Miley’s response was tasteless, you don’t use mental health illness as ammunition against a person.
Lisa McInerney’s fawning over Sinead O’Connor here is cringeworthy. Lisa you seem to have conveniently forgotten that Ms. O’Connor practically pimped herself out on social media not so long ago; in her sad, desperate and embarrassing attempts to find herself a man that was mad enough to go within fifty feet of her.
O’Connor’s ‘advice’ is pathetic. She’s bitter that a young girl is getting attention, and she (Sinead) should just accept the fact that the only person who will listen to her crap these days is someone who writes for the Journal and perhaps Ryan Tubridy.
Nobody has mentioned Miley’s really telling reply to Sinead’s open letter. Miley tweeted “Before Amanda Bynes…” and then attached a screen grab showing tweets attributed to Sinead last year when she reached out for mental health help via Twitter. BTW Amanda Bynes is a young Hollywood actress and former child star who recently suffered a mental breakdown and was sectioned. She’s since been disguised as schizophrenic and bipolar. Way to go Miley. Discredit someone because of mental illness. What an astute young lady she is. Tells you everything you need to know.
“Miley figured out that playing the skanky fool will keep her in the spotlight”. I really think you give her too much credit for earning over 100mil in 5 years. Her image had been carefully managed by a team of executives around a boardroom table. This overtly provocative style of music video that borders on soft core is really becoming more common now. Blurred Lines, Satisfaction, Call on me, Not myself tonight, Destination Calabria, etc etc is not the inspirational idea of the artist who recognises it will keep them in the spot light… it’s music executives. It’s also really only concerned with one thing… Money. No consideration for young image conscious girls and their interpretation of role models acting like objects of desire. It’s cheap. It’s also damaging to young men too who also see women as objects and then expect real life to reflect that. I’m sure Miley can have a viable music career without getting naked and licking sledge hammers. But sex sells, and her management team know that. It masks her real talent though which is a pity. Coincidentally that “wrecking ball” song was written by 5 professional songwriters, some of them grammy nominated and Ivor novella recipients. Again… all manufactured and outside her control. She’s not driving the success wagon. The executives are. She’s just a tool to be used by the money builders.
Jesus the lefties have their fingers in all the pies if you’re to be believed. Hippies, business executives, politicians, fascists – what a multi-talented cliche!
Its not only just to make money, its distraction. The sexualisation of society has been well planned. When you have the vast majority of citizens living in poverty or close to it, every bit of bulls**t helps in keeping the status quo.
The guy who directed the video, Terry Richardson, is a well known pornographer (soft core and hard core) so that the video turned out like it did is no surprise to anyone who knows his name. One of his most known images was of him being fellated by his girl friend. Her previous video, the one where she was going on about Molly and cocaine, was directed by the same person responsible for Blurred Lines.
I honestly think that yes, people are giving this Miley wan too much credit. And I say this as someone who lets out a massive sigh whenever I hear Sinead O’Connor’s name mentioned in anything.
I’m not a big fan of Sinead O’Connor, but I think she was dead right in that letter. And Miley Cyrus’ response shows she’s a childish spoiled brat, who thinks she’s got far more talent than she actually has. The truth is she’s just a wannabe, who’s only in the news at the moment because people are cruel sick bstards who want to watch her fall. The dig at Amanda Bynes was just bitchy too, and stupid of Cyrus considering most people put the two of them into the same category(child stars gone mad).
I’ve honestly lost any respect I had for Miley Cyrus today. Not that I had any to start with, mind. And I never bitch about celebrities online.
I may be long in the tooth and have eccentric tastes in music but she’s really only the latest wannabe trying to sell a product by flaunting her charms. Have any of the women mentioned above got any real talent.? Still if consumerism and consumers are dumb enough to be drawn in, well the executive has done his job.
Yes. Sinead O’Connor has bags of it and she’s not the first artist to have problems. Rihanna also has an indisputably fantastic voice. I may not like her style, or most of her tunes, but the girl can really sing.
Oh Joe, I’m probably as long in the tooth, it’s all marketing and not much talent, a race to see who can keep their profile ‘up there’. Personally I think it’s soft porn and a very very bad message to young girls, there’s a big difference between sexy and slutty!
She’s in the queue directly behind Lindsay Lohan. Another celebrity car crash, being driven by marketing departments, approaching the next career junction.
Sinead was a one hit wonder, with a song written for her by prince. She made an ass of herself with her anti american/anti pope nonesence. She thought she was the female Bono, sadly her bad song writhing could’nt save her.She had an amazing voice to sing with and she messed it up……
You clearly know jack shit about Sinead O’Connor and her musical career, other than what you think you know from chat shows and tabloids, and probably a lot less about music.
I don’t regard myself as a Sinead O’Connor fan and agree with some of what you say, but ‘Mandinka’!!? GREAT song. Also, just because she hasn’t had much commercial success, does not make her redundant.
Well yes I do,and it seems your a big fan of her bad song writhing.Seen her a few times in concert and you have to sit through alot of crap before she sings the Prince song.
paul your bang on the mark there, sinead o connor has serious phsycological problems, getting letters carved in her face being the latest madness. miley cyrus is an adult, bould enough to make her own decisions. she knows exactly what she is doing.she certainly didnt pull any punches replying to attention seeking sinead.
Poor auld sinead is going to get her lawyers onto miley now because of her response to her.You now your the nut job in the room when Miley looks like the sane one.
lol , Rihanna has a terrible voice, she exaggerates her voice in laughable attempt at singing. nothing but auto tune on every single track. to say she has an indisputably fantastic voice is nonsense and flys in the face of proper women with real singing ability. ie.. Maria Carey, Aretha franklin . Dolly Parton , Whitney Houston, Diana Ross .
I think Sinead’s letter was full of good intentions and she wasn’t trying to come across as anything other than nice. I think alot of people could take something from that letter. She made good points!
Miley on the other hand, who has tonnes of young children “following” her on Twitter decides to act like an educated spoilt brat and makes fun of a woman who clearly suffers from a mental illness and makes sh1t of her!
Totally unacceptable and in bad taste! Grow up Miley, the world is laughing at you NOT with you!
I’m sure she couldn’t care less who is laughing at her as she’s laughing all the way to the bank! I’ll never understand how these people are successful but someone is obviously interested in listening to this sh*t music and finding out what some billionaire Kardashian is doing all day every day! The world is gone mad!
It’s the 11 and 12 year old girls who are buying the likes of One Directions crap that are buying Miley’s! Miley has never really bothered me up until now with that reply via Twitter about Sinead.
Miley has a platform that she could have used, she should have just shrugged off Sinead’s letter and left it at that but no,she had to have a go at Sinead’s mental health issues. She is a Role model for young girls and boys whether she likes it or not! My siblings grew up way watching Hannah Montana and continued to follow her career after said programme finished.
She’s just a silly girl who’s stuck in her own little world,Which is very sad..she’s just another “Cash Cow”.
Sinead accused her of being nothing better than a prostitute in an open letter. She should have gave Sinead the finger with a big FU . Instead she brought in mental health issues as a dig at Sinead. Not the wisest choice, but then again she is only 20 and imperfect and can make wrong choices, just like you and I. But because of who she is she gets ripped apart for it. Negative press can affect a celebs mental health, the press are key players in a celebs demise.
The journal has even said she needs the wooden spoon and is a total mess.
I quote the journal 24.05.13: #SHE’S THE MAN Amanda Bynes, what are we going to do with you?
The actress was arrested in in New York last night after allegedly throwing a bong out the window when police came to her apartment. (TMZ)
All this is happening just as the internet gets its head around the fact that Bynes tried to board a plane in New Jersey by telling airport officials to Google her, because she didn’t have any ID. (NY Daily News)
Will someone send an Irish mammy after her with a wooden spoon, for the love of God?
Did you note the last sentence….
And here is another one 20.09.13:
Remember back when Amanda Bynes was a mediocre actress and not a total mess?
Well get ready to travel through time, because we’re going back to those days via teen movie She’s the Man.
It’s based on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, you know.
‘cyrus’ should read ‘Cyrus’; ‘thats’ should read ‘that’s'; ‘shes’ should read ‘she’s'; and ‘rotton’ should read ‘rotten’. You are in no position to criticise Miley Cyrus or the youth of today.
“She does not wish to be given time to work out her artistic trajectory.”
Sweet, jaysus, Lisa, this is Mylie Cyrus desperately trying to reinvent her image and career, not Picasso reinventing modernist painting. The only trajectory Cyrus is on is one headed directly into the ground. Her upcoming guest host spot on a major US talk show in a few days will be her next/latest car crash!
Miley isn’t the worst of them. Licking a sledgehammer was a but weird, but then again most celebs are weird, Including Sinead o Connor.
Pot, kettle, black…
Don’t like the use of the word skanky and think it’s unprofessional of a journalist to refer to a 20 year old singer as skanky. The only people I hear those types of words from are bullies….
And since when does a sledgehammer have a penis? I didn’t see miley Cyrus sucking the sledgehammers dick.
There was uproar when an Irish girl was criticised for fellatio in front of 80,000 people, yet hear your are criticizing miley for licking a sledgehammer. Goodness knows what you say shes doing when shes eating an ice cream.
I neither know nor care who Miley Cyrus is Ian, but if Sinead cared I’m sure she could have got a message through to her without publishing it internationally. Seems to me Sinead did it for publicity for her own self. Nothing new there where Sinead is concerned.
Niall I thought the exact same myself! She talks of Cyrus being exploited by executives and has quite obviously used this as an occasion to get her own name back in the limelight!
Hold on a second folks. SOC has been hounded by the press to make some comment soundbyte about Cyrus referring to her Nothing Compares Video. One way or another her advice open or other wise would have been exploited by the gossiping technology we all love.
Don’t all of ye who complain about Sinéad O’Connor giving her opinion in public find if a little bit ironic that you’re all telling her here, online, to mind her own business? Why is she not allowed to express her views in public and you aren’t?
Bill, you helped Aine correct my spelling and use of the word way/outweigh etc. So to help you out, otherwise is actually all one word, not two separate words, and you too are capitalising in the middle of a sentence. To use your phrase, learn the difference would you?
A talented songwriter like Lady Gaga penned songs for other artists on her way up the ladder, nobody saw her in her coked out of it stripper days…so now she’s able to impersonate Andy Warhol to her hearts content and she’s fricking loaded. ..have u seen her play the piano with her platforms? Brilliant. Miley Cyrus ain’t nothin but an echo of the end-of-empire decadence that is the American porn industry, she couldn’t be objective about her culture if she tried, she IS the sexualisation of a child. Sineads morals are totally wasted on her cos she just don’t currr
Sinead O’ Connor giving advice to someone. I find that fascinating! The content of the letter is Irrelevant. I think if we add up all of Sinead O’Connors issues and stunts and behaviour failures get the years, they would far out way Miley’s failures to date.
Hi Aine, no, I’m perfectly happy with my version of it. Sure it’s incorrect, but you know what? I’m not in school, you’re not my teacher, and I don’t really give a cr*p whether or not my spelling or grammar is correct, or whether auto-correct occasionally types something didn’t want it to. If you have so much time on your hands that you would be one of the people on here that comment purely to feel superior for a moment and take the time to correct people for mistakes, then good luck to you :)
I was not correcting your spelling or your grammar Janet – I was pointing out the fact that you had used the wrong word entirely. By the way I think where you say “get the years” you must mean “through the years” and irrelevant is only capitalised at the beginning of a sentence.
From your latest post I think you meant “autocorrect occasionally types something *I* didn’t want it to.”
I don’t feel superior Janet, I feel really worried that somehow who appears to have had a third level education doesn’t know the difference between out way and outweigh.
Spot on Aine. This caper of writing open letters to people who are obviously making fools of themselves might catch on. Open Letter to Janet. Learn the difference between weigh and way.
No, I don’t think Janet was making a fool of herself – I just thought that maybe if she knew she wasn’t using the right word it might be useful for her in the future. I didn’t intend on making her defensive about it.
Like a boss Janet, lot of haters in the world, keep on trucking, keyboard bullies be keyboard bullies, they can only hurt ya if you give em your home address and they stalk ya and then throw dictionaries at ya, Bill and Aine, don’t be doing that stuff now, just breath
there’s quite a few of them and their followers follow suit. Reeenana too is some role model alright :/ pure dirt the lot of them, and their producers, skanking up royalty free beats with a few enhancements here and there we’ve heard millions of times. the state of that music scene, its not even one. a voice and image scene, high on auto tune.
bang on lad, that’s how it works. whats the odds the odds she be on with tubirdy in a few years. don’t take drugs kids, unless ya want a tv appearance on the late late, although the two probably need to go hand in hand , ya’d need drugs to get thru the late late as a guest. #offTopicSlightlyButI’mCoolCauseI#ed
Sinead has always been a shameless self promoter, her hard neck and willingness to do anything to get noticed preceded any fame she eventually achieved… Years ago when she was at the height of her ‘pope-ripping’ I saw her live on RTE being as outrageous as she could be and about two days later I happened to be in the US and she was doing a live talkshow there too, except there she was as nice as pie and being the girl next door… ‘cos being anti-religious would have sunk her career in the states. So, Sinead herself has been well able and well prepared to play to the crowd to get what she wanted. It’s was pity though, I had been a fan and after that show in the states (Rosie O’Donnell if I remember correctly) I could never believe that she had any integrity, I lost faith in her completely. Now she’s writing an ‘open’ letter to Miley Cyrus? If she was so concerned I’m sure she could have made contact privately. I’m afraid I think Sinead is just self promoting yet again by jumping on the bandwagon with this nonsense.
Im not sure whether Sineads letter was a claw for attention when she got an opening or a heartfelt warning. I think the only way Id be convinced her message was genuine is if we dont see her pull any of her own publicity stunts in the future eg like the time she decided to join the priesthood, and she turns out to be a truly reformed character who has indeed learned her lesson. All that aside, if Miley considers her such an inspiration, enough to be talking about her in interviews, surely she should know a bit about her and her well known history of mental illness and to turn that back against her when Sinead says something she doesnt like, really is just vicious. On the plus side, bit of media exposure for both of them ay?
Sinead O’connor is not all there. She’s not in a great position to be giving life advice. Myley Cyrus is making mega bucks. Comparable to Michael jackson in that she was a child star with no realisation of the real world and now she’s even bigger. Everyone is out to make money. She should retire for a while and enjoy her wealth. No use being the next britney Spears.
Miley Cyrus is the most perfectly groomed ‘rebel’ ever. All she wants is for people to talk and write about her and hey guess what…..it’s working!!!!!
Can we please try the ancient art of ignoring her and hope that she goes away?
Man she’s creaming it. Like Madonna and others. She’s right!!! Personally I don’t mind looking at her. But then I have a health sexual appetite. Move along sheep there’s nothing to see here. Baa.
I open MSN’s homepage tonight and oh holy moley… Sinead O Connor really knows nothing about men, she thinks we’re all w*nk*ng over Miley Cyrus!?!?!?!? Sinead, lesson number 1, this is more like what men would masturbate over I think http://lifestyle.ie.msn.com/him/michael-bubles-wife-models-new-ultimo-lingerie-42 (also on MSN’s site)
….. although I’m not an expert on other men’s masturbatory fantasties(I’m sure herself is happy with that) I probably have a little more insight into what us fellas give a toss about….(pun intended)
A young woman enjoying the adoration and admiration of her peers of both sexes should be allowed the intoxication if she either wants or needs it. It’s insulting to her to tell her that her talent will conquer anyway. She knows that, it always has before. She’s reeling from a relationship and whether it’s strategy or breaking free is her business but she is not unlike any other girl in the world. Lady Gaga always ends up in a bikini, it’s because that’s so fake no one comments.
Miley Cyrus is a “veteran” , she is twenty years old , she is a child being exploited get real Sinead O Connor is a veteran and knows what she is talking about
