IT’S THE IRISH Film and Television Awards tonight, and Irish celebrities have gathered together to celebrate the very best of Irish screen productions.
Currently taking place at the Royal Convention Centre in Dublin, stars such as Cillian Murphy, Andrew Scott, Saoirse Ronan, Nicola Coughlan, and Kneecap are in attendance – with many of the aforementioned up for awards in various categories.
The event is hosted by comedian and presenter Kevin McGahern.
Aside from the various categories, actor Colm Meaney has also been presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The 71-year-old’s first acting credit is from 1978.
Irish language film Kneecap has a total of 17 nominations, leading the way. Disney + series Say Nothing has ten nominations. Bad Sisters, created by Sharon Horgan, has eight, while Bodkin and The Dry both have seven.
Saoirse Ronan has won both Lead Actress in a film for The Outrun, and Supporting Actress – Film for her role in Blitz.
Oscar winner Cillian Murphy has won Lead Actor in a film for the acclaimed adaptation of Claire Keegan’s novel, Small Things Like these.
Kneecap director Rich Peppiatt has won Best Director. The film has also picked up awards for casting, editing, and costume design.
International Actor has been given to Ralph Fiennes for his role in Conclave, while Demi Moore had picked up International Actress for her starring role in The Substance.
International Film has been won by Conclave.Colin Farrell has won Lead Actor in a drama for The Penguin in a stacked category that included nominees Micheal Fassbender, Aidan Turner, Andrew Scott, Ciarán Hinds, and Anthony Boyle.

@Donna Fallon: there’s the convention centre on the quays, and the royal convention centre by Dublin Castle. Agree it’s a stupid and confusing name. Saw people heading in for the retail awards last year. Hadn’t noticed it before then.
Bad sisters Season 2 was absolutely dreadful

Probably the most pointless yet predictable awards show going.
For a small country we Irish have probably over achieved but why have these awards to try compeat with the Brits we have produced some great actors but (and I don’t blame them) all went abroad to make money. Why do we feel the need to copy the likes of dancing with the stars, first dates or goggle box. We don’t have the population they have to pick from so why are we always making a show of our selfs with these crappy remake versions.
Excuse my ignorance but what are these awards. Are they another money wasting opportunity and who is paying for them are they
Jaysus, Soairse could only sneeze in a film and the IFTAs will give her an award. No offence, i like her, but the IFTAs are a joke.
Cillian over acted his role. Didn’t deserve to win.
