Over 500,000 potentially affected by loyalty scheme breach

An initial inspection report has found that the names, addresses and other details of some 1.12 million clients have also been compromised.

THE OFFICE OF the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) has said this evening that the credit card details of over 500,000 people across Europe may have been compromised in the Loyaltybuild breach.

In a statement this evening, the ODPC said a preliminary inspection report has confirmed that full card details of over 376,000 customers were taken, of which 70,000 were Supevalu Getaway customers and more than 8,000 were AXA Leisure Break customers.

Details of an additional 150,000 clients were potentially compromised.

The inspection report has also confirmed that names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses of some 1.12m clients were also taken. The ODPC said initial indications are that these breaches were “an external criminal act”.

The commissioner’s office said it will now fully assess the findings of the inspection and will be making a number of recommendations to Loyaltybuild. A follow up inspection will also be carried out.
