MARTY MORRISSEY HAS been picked to fill the seat on RTÉ Radio 1′s mid-afternoon show following Derek Mooney’s departure.
This is a temporary measure ahead of Ray D’Arcy’s arrival at the station in February.
A spokesperson for RTÉ said Morrissey will be a familiar voice to many listeners, mainly from his sports commentary but also from covering programmes such as Countrywide.
They noted that Morrissey will be able to ‘expand his repertoire’ with the move, and will cover all topics on the programme.
However, he is expected only to be called on to the fill the role from 12 January until 2 February.
Alison Curtis is presenting Today FM’s mid-morning slot ‘for the foreseeable future’.
D’Arcy’s wife and former producer of his Today FM show Jenny Kelly took to Twitter last night to thank listeners for their well-wishes, but to also pass on a message from Ray:
D’Arcy’s sudden departure from Today FM was announced late on Sunday evening, and was with immediate effect.

The lack of talent in RTE these days is quite staggering really, that covers both radio and TV. Nicky Byrne is barely able to speak 3 words without breaking into a moronic laughter, so he gets the lotto job along with a prime radio spot. Ray D’arcy is without a doubt the most annoying, arrogant, condescending host in the country so RTE poach him for huge money. Kathryn Thomas seems to be the only female host they will use, Add the likes of Dave fanning, Brian ormond, Marty Morrissey and Neil delamare and it really looks farcical

what ‘repertoire’ would this be? whatever things you might say about this guy, having a repertoire wouldnt be one of them. h
he is so bereft of ANYTHING that you could put out a XMAS version of the famous children’s book, ‘Where’s Marty’s Repertoire’ that would keep whole families going for days an dmonths trying to find it. and they would still be there this time next year

They should give the new slot to Tom Dunne. I used to love his show on Today FM and he was always very good when filling in for D’arcy. Might actually get some decent music played too.
Agreed. Tom Dunne would be my first choice to replace Darcy too, whenever he did fill-in for him in the past, it was always priceless but you’d probably need Will & Mairead thrown into the mix to get that dynamic back.

People on here laughing at his appearance are horrible individuals, whether they are willing to accept that or not. If someone makes an insensitive remark about someone’s sexuality, race or mental health status on here everybody jumps down their throat in a race to show everyone what right-thinking and good people they are. But make fun of someone’s appearance, something which they are not fully responsible for (although more responsible for than the first 2 of the above at least) and it is fair game. People suffer in life and are treated much worse than others based on how attractive they are (consciously and subconsciously) so people perpetuating bullying based on physical attractiveness are as much perpetuating unhappiness for *someone* as those who bully based on sexuality and race etc.. The hundreds of people passively green-thumbing such bullying comments are just as nasty people themselves.
