Nando's to create 100 new jobs in Dublin

The Portuguese chicken lovers are opening two new restaurants in Blanchardstown and Liffey Valley.

NANDO’S IS TO expand its Irish presence next month with the opening of two new restaurants in Dublin.

Announcing the establishment of eateries at Blanchardstown and Liffey Valley shopping centres, the Portuguese chicken specialists said they will be creating 100 new jobs.

Once the doors open on 14 November and 21 November respectively, Nando’s will have seven restaurants in Ireland and two in Northern Ireland. Its workforce will exceed 380 people.

“The addition of 100 new full and part-time jobs demonstrates our commitment to Ireland and represents good news for Nando’s and the local communities we serve,” said managing director Alan Snyman.

Originally set up in a small suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa in 1987, Nandos has since grown to have over 850 restaurants in 34 countries worldwide.

First time I went I nearly wet myself when I had to place my order, collect my cutlery, drinks, etc… then there was a Tip Jar… So I tipped myself.

Two meals in McDonalds for €16 and its diabolical food that you have to feed yourself again an hour later, a meal for two in Nando’s for €26 thats actually proper food and fills you for hours, not too expensive at all

General opinion of journal commenters perhaps, guess most people really love spiced up chicken to hide it’s non-flavour and chips that are cold by the time they get to your table.

The piri piri chili comes from southern Africa, more associated with Mozambique and Angola, because they were Portuguese colonies. The piri piri thing made its way into Iberian cooking through these colonial links. Nando’s is a South African franchise, and it’s everywhere in South Africa. Though the best piri piri chicken is still found in Mozambique. :)

I don’t know how people eat all this crap chain restaurant food. If more people could cook proper food at home (and I don’t mean out of a jar), they’d run a mile before eating this rubbish. As for expensive, cook your own piri piri chicken and it’ll cost a €10 for a family. The only restaurant’s worth going to are ones that can cook better than you can yourself.

Which reminds me, my son worked in a restaurant and told me that the food is full of sugar, butter and salt. But that’s no surprise. A very easy way to make food taste better is to fill it full of these cheap materials that are bad for you. Steaks are often covered in salt.

I’m not an economist but I’m fairly sure that Exports are very important to Ireland’s economy, both products and services. If everyone was to follow your strategy it would cripple us as we rely on other nations using our produce.

Buying locally is great in that it’s fresher and environmentally friendly but its not going to help create more Irish jobs. That’s just short sighted and “false economy”.

Is it really job creation when the demand for casual dining in both locations is pretty stagnant? As Nandos expands its highly likely it’s competition will feel more of a pinch and cut jobs and hours as a result. Nando’s hire 100, Eddie Rocket’s, TGI Friday’s and Captain America’s let staff go. It’s a little like the Tesco situation whereas they employ thousands in this country they’ve never really created a job as all they’ve done is displace other (locally owned) businesses.
