The New York Times admits to making up a country

We’ve all been there, right?

THE NEW YORK Times does a lot of things well.

The paper of record particularly excels at corrections.

Yesterday, the Times admitted it had erroneously referred to ‘Kyrgyzstan’ as ‘Kyrzbekistan’ in an article on rock climber Tommy Caldwell.

They both sound alike but the latter is missing out on one fundamental thing: existence.

If you’ve never checked out the paper’s corrections page, you should – there’s often some real gems in there.

Back in September 2013, the Times apologised for giving the wrong profession to well- known plumber duo Mario and Luigi.

The paper referred to the brothers as janitors in an obituary for Hiroshi Yamauchi – the former president of Nintendo.

Where was the Irish government to fly him home to get treatment like the Americans, Spanish and British did. Don’t the Irish care about their aid workers?

The idea of flying people home is for when “home” has better medical facilities than wherever they fell ill.
