Planning permission granted for children’s hospital at St James’s

An Bord Pleanála has approved plans for a €650 million children’s hospital to be built at St James’s Hospital in Dublin’s south inner city. Construction will start in the summer and is expected to be completed by 2020.

Alan Kelly’s regrets

Labour TD Alan Kelly has said he wasn’t allowed to be as ambitious as he wanted to be in fixing the housing crisis because certain powers were not available to him.  The Minister for the Environment also blamed nimbyism for slowing down the response to the homelessness crisis.

  • The 10-year-old Nenagh retail park in Tipperary, home to seven large outlets, has gone on the market this week for €2.6 million. Woodies and Aldi are the largest businesses in the park, with Woodies providing a rental income of €240,000 with Aldi next in line.
  • Mount Merrion in south county Dublin is to be the site of quite a lot of development and building over the next few years, according to a report in the Irish Times. 70 apartments are planned, subject to planning permission. 
  • Savills has expanded its new homes division to meet anticipated activity as it reported that last year’s new homes sales came in at €100 million – the highest since the recession, reports the Irish Times.
