EAST MIDLANDS AIRPORT has denied reports this evening of an emergency in connection with a Ryanair flight from Cork.
According to details on the Ryanair site, the flight landed safely at East Midlands shortly after 10pm today, but was delayed due to an ‘air traffic control’ delay:

There were reports in local media and on Twitter this evening of an emergency on board flight FR1769.
BREAKING EMERGENCY We have confirmation B737 Ryanair flight #FR1769 safely landed at East Midlands airport. It could be a medical issue.
However, when contacted by TheJournal.ie, East Midlands Airport said there had been no emergency incident at the airport this evening, “involving Ryanair or otherwise”.
Update 11:36am, Thursday, 31 July 2014:
Ryanair has confirmed that a customer was taken ill on the flight:
A customer onboard this flight from Cork to East Midlands last night (30 July) became ill. The crew informed ATC and requested to be met by an ambulance. The aircraft landed normally and the customer was met by medical staff, but did not require treatment. There was no emergency on this flight.

Another non story, only posted because it contains the name Ryanair. There may or may not been an emergency, or medical issue, and it may or may not have happened on a Ryanair aircraft. Top class news on the journal tonight!
Hi Ken, we ran this piece because people are asking what’s happening with the flight. The airport spoke to us about it and rather than keep that to ourselves, we thought it would be good to clarify what we know about it.
Are you telling me Susan that each time someone sees an aircraft squawk 7700 on flight radar applications and they contact you (or can contact you) and you and members of your team at the Journal is going to found out what’s happening? Like really? Are you serious?
when their is breaking news and you don’t have all the facts that’s fine but when it’s a non story based on speculation why waste time posting it. all you’ve got is someone said something and anyone in a position to know said it didn’t happen.
If you could not just focus exclusively on the safe landing updates for Ryanair but publish updates on all safe landings be it Aer Lingus, British Airways, American Airlines etc. Thanks Journal
That Ryanair flight declared an emergency. I have flightradar24 app which notifies of an emergencies declared by any flights and that Ryanair did declare an emergency.
Squak 7700s are not uncommon, anything up to once an hour throughout the world. Pilots are advised not to switch transponders to standby when changing squak, so the signal is constant. However, the transponders on some aircraft can allow a pilot to briefly and inadvertantly send a 7700 emergency code as they scroll through the 0-7 digits. It happens and does not always mean an emergency. ATC will always seek verification on status when a 7700 is sent. I suspect that *possibly* happened here.
We live in a world where anyone can track aircraft through apps and have instant live information. Most rudimentary flight apps on your phone are set up to send out an alert the instant a 7700 is transponded.
Suspect Ryanair was running almost out of oil & that’s why it was forced to land at nearest airport. This incident should be investigated plus a big fine.
Considering it was going to East Midlands and landed at East Midlands it didn’t run out of anything, oh yeah, whats that you said? 100% safety record….. Yeah thats correct
Big fine for nothing happening. I hope you realise they don’t use ‘oil’ and they didn’t run out of it.
And i hope you realise that the documentary Channel 4 ran left out big details like the one that other aircraft declared emergency the same evening as the Ryanair aircraft. These details make big differences in the story.
The key word in my post was “lubricate”. Not the fuel, the Turbo Oil 2380, (or whatever), that lubricates, and cools, the bearings and without which they ain’t going nowhere. Yes, I know it’s a synthetic but still crude oil based as is Jet A1……..which is basically a Kerosine cut. Oh, and no problem with the waiting, just me being a tad grumpy.
Squaked 7700. Fuel emergency apparently. Given that would have had enough fuel to reach their destination and then an alternative, you could speculate they had a fuel leak.
I was on this flight and a passenger went in to anaphylactic shock after someone else had been eating nuts. We were met by paramedics and fire brigade on the ground and they were definitely treating it like an emergency!
