Drunken Scots force diversion of Ibiza-bound Ryanair flight

“They thought they had already arrived in Ibiza,” a police spokesman said, after the plane from Glasgow was forced to land at Beauvais airport in France.

A RYANAIR FLIGHT from Glasgow to Ibiza was forced to make an emergency landing in France after a group of drunk passengers started dancing in the aisles.

The airline confirmed today that the passengers, described as Scots by local police, had been thrown off the plane at Beauvais airport north of the French capital on yesterday evening and questioned by authorities.

“They thought they had already arrived in Ibiza,” a police spokesman said, explaining that after buying duty-free alcohol in Glasgow, they drank it on the plane and started dancing, causing such a ruckus that the pilot decided to divert to Beauvais.

The plane eventually took off again without the partying passengers, who were released in the early hours of this morning and directed to a Beauvais train station to go to Paris.

According to Beauvais airport management, the Ryanair crew has made an official complaint against the disruptive passengers, who could face charges at a later date.

Ryanair spokesman Robin Kiely confirmed the incident.

“A Ryanair flight from Glasgow Prestwick to Ibiza diverted into Paris Beauvais after a small group of passengers became disruptive on-board,” Kiely said.

“On arrival, police removed and detained these 14 individuals. Ryanair apologised to the other 160 passengers for any inconvenience and delay to their journey, but will not tolerate unruly or disruptive passengers. This matter is now being dealt with by the French police.”

Local police put the number of passengers questioned at 16.

Good decision by the pilot. Nothing worse than drunkards on a full flight!

How dare they enjoy themselves going on holiday. It could have been worse though. They could have been stuck beside one of you condescending bores on the plane. Up the Scots.

They will go to court and will get a bill for the flight diversion. Ryanair wont pay for the forced emergency landing. Those that caused it foot the bill. An expensive holiday.

I recall a group getting absolutely locked on their duty free vodka, standing on the isle when coming into land, and when getting off the aircraft to get the bus that takes you to the terminal, trying to light a fag at the engine of the plane!

Are the seats smaller than on most other airlines on short haul routes, wouldn’t think so? Also I doubt you’ve ever been hassled by a single crew member to buy anything, they may have mentioned it on the intercom and walked past you with them but that’s not being hassled. You must be a very sensitive soul Del.

A simple solution is for Ryanair to charge their credit cards for the costs involved. This is what car hire companies do if you cause them a financial loss not covered by the car hire insurance. Imagine their sore heads when they get the call from their bank that they are thousands over their card limit.
