SKY HAS LAUNCHED a new catch-up service, allowing customers to watch major shows across 43 different channels after they were broadcast.
The service includes both Sky and non-Sky channels including Channel 4, Sky 1, Comedy Central and MTV.
TV3′s 3Player, which also includes shows from 3e, will be added to the service next week. Shows are usually made available online for seven days before they are removed.

Those with the basic entertainment package will have access to 21 different channels, while entertainment extra customers will see another 16 channels, such as National Geographic, Discovery Channel and Cartoon Network, added to the collection.
Those with sports and movie packages will also have access to five Sky Sports channels and movie premieres. The broadcaster says that additional stations like Sky News and Eurosport will added to the service shortly.
The catch-up service is the latest addition to Sky’s online services. The broadcaster has an On Demand service and Sky Store, which lets you rent movies online.
While On Demand allows you to watch a limited number of shows or movies, Catch-Up includes the main shows from each channel.
Customers require a compatible Sky+HD box that’s connected to their broadband router. Depending on the model, this can be done through WiFi, an Ethernet cable or an On Demand Connector.

I’m so glad that you showed such sterling quality of character, Bazalini. I myself would never avail of such a facility. I must save this article as a reminder what sites to avoid.
Its news to me Stephen. I knew nothing about this until now and it’s well worth knowing. Now to try blag a sky hd box off them. Still using the old white brick.
Hence the price increase! Sky have some neck! After losing a lot of important premier league football to BT they announce a price increase from February! BT is so so much cheaper & as most people only have sky for the sports it’s very worth checking fixture lists between Sky & BT, you will be surprised!
Just keep ringing them and telling them bye bye and you get 50% off. I haven’t paid full price in 4 years. There is so many options now they have to adapt and be flexible.
That’s so true Mikey! I’ve just bagged free installation of the new HD wireless box and managed to get the box itself for free too. They were trying to charge me €300 for them! And all because my standard Sky+ box is ancient and it kept deleting all my recordings. Had enough, rang to cancel, got a 6 mth reduction on my multiroom and the above order for free! Ka-ching :-). All ya gotta do is threaten to leave and the offers come flowing from them!
I do think Sky’s TV service is easily the best in this country, their selection of channels and EPG is way ahead of UPC. However they do fall down on a number of issues, namely you still have to tune the ITV channels in manually which means you can’t record them, their bundles packages for TV, Phone & Broadband are not great and finally they certainly ain’t cheap. I recently moved my phone & broadband to Sky and you would think one should save quite a bit by doing this, but sadly not as their bundles packages are very poor. They better get eFibre within the next few months, otherwise I shall be moving my phone and broadband again once my year is up.
And also, ITV does not have the rights to broadcast their channel in the republic. They never had but have applied to start airing a channel sometime this year.
Because upc (back when they were NTL) made an understanding-of-sorts which pre-dates the tv3 rights to broadcast all itv programming that they have the licences for. So the issue does not lie with sky but tv3.
Which is the same reason why itv cant be broadcast through saorview.
When utv get their channel up and running then everything will be hunky dory!
If you can get ADSL then you can get Sky Broadband and for 40e a month you can get unlimited data usage and evening and weekend calls (cheapest unlimited plan around in my view)
@dr samoflange – Yeah I can’t get over why people would choose to stop paying expensive monthly bills to a company when they can get all the basic channels for free and just download whatever shows that are broadcast on channels they don’t have. I’ll never understand that at all.
Martin.. Free to air is fine isnt it.. Never any loss in service.. We have saved 2k to 3k in rental fees since we installed free to air 6 yrs ago.. We also bought Apple tv recently which has You Tube, Vevo and Netflix at 6.99 per month..
We did have Chorus but i hated them. Sister has Sky which she is happy with..
But if you are on a budget then free to air is great
Sky have been ripping the public off for way too long. The more competition out there the better. I have UPC have 3 services bundled which saves me loads compared with SKYs useless broadband tv package.
Sky’s HD quality is far superior to the very average HD from UPC. Sky use a much better compression algorithm and it really shows, especially on fast moving action. The Sky UX and OSD is much better than UPCs, which is slow and very annoying to use. I hate the fact that Channel 4 is HD on free-to-air box in my bedroom, but not on Sky in my sitting room. I have Sky Go on my Android phone, my PC and on my iPad, I can watch live or On Demand programs anywhere I go, I’ve had this for a few years. I never pay full price, I always ring up for a discount. Free to air is fine, but I love Sky One, Sky Atlantic, SciFy channel, Discovery Channel, etc, all in HD, none of which are available on freeview. I can tell my Sky box to record a program using my phone. I was out in a friends house last week and he recommended a program that was about to start, I used my phone to set my Sky box to record and also Series Linked it. Yes, you do pay for the Service, but you get a lot of service! I love Sky now!
