South Dublin County Council strike called off after LRC talks

Industrial action centred on staff pay cuts at the local authority.

MEMBERS OF THE Impact trade union involved in an ongoing dispute with South Dublin County Council have withdrawn their industrial action over pay cuts following talks at the Labour Relations Commission.

The union said this evening that it has accepted proposals presented by the LRC today which include the LRC chairing a review of the local authority’s staff structure.

Both parties involved in the dispute will also make submissions on a workforce plan and review to be carried out by early September.

Following a general meeting in Tallaght today of over 300 Impact members, Impact National Secretary Peter Nolan said that members are “satisfied that our objectives have been realised”.

“We sought the restoration of the payments cut from staff in April, and we sought an independent review of the staffing structure of South Dublin County Council,” Nolan said. “The proposals tabled this morning by the LRC address both of these issues.”

Council workers had described the LRC talks as a final opportunity to reach a resolution before carrying out further strike action similar to that of 24 June. Limited industrial action has been taking place in recent weeks.

The LRC proposals are contingent on the withdrawal of existing and threatened industrial action at the council, pending the outcome of the review.

Pictures for these articles are always out of touch with reality for 99% of its readers. No typical house or apartment has these “problems”. My bed is 2m long and fits right under the window. That gives some great space in front of it between door and bed side. The bed base has 2 storage boxes which are a good investment on top of a regular bed base which just takes up room.

Loft bed offers more storage. I tried cornering a bed once, but you can’t get at half the underbed storage that way.
