Steven Spielberg warns of 'demons' faced by Jewish people

The director was speaking to a group of Holocaust survivors in Poland today.

STEVEN SPIELBERG HAS said that Jewish people are again facing the “perennial demons of intolerance” from anti-Semites who want to strip them of their identity.

The film director made the comments while speaking to a group of Holocaust survivors in Krakow, Poland today.

Spielberg has been working on a documentary to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. He will be present at a commemorative event at the concentration camp tomorrow.

Spielberg founded the USC Shoah Foundation in 1994 with a view to creating a visual history archive about the Holocaust. The organisation currently has a collection of about 53,000 eye-witness testimonies.

He told those present today: “The most combative way to fight hate is to remember and to never forget through testimony and preservation.”

The Israeli news website Haaretz said that Moshe Kantor, president of the European Jewish congress, told the same conference that “Jews are the only European minority which is afraid of sending kids to school”.

Kantor said he has felt “violence in the air” in European cities, adding: “I have heard slogans ‘Hitler was right’ and ‘Jews go to ghetto!’ I have read on the walls ‘Close Guantanamo, reopen Auschwitz!’
But Europeans remained in comfortable arrogance and terrible tragedy happened in Paris [referencing the Charlie Hebdo attacks].

Earlier today, some of the survivors from Auschwitz prayed for their murdered loved ones amid the barracks and barbed wire of the camp.

The World Jewish Congress and the USC Shoah Foundation helped bring the survivors to Auschwitz for the anniversary.

Just get Nokia’s Here app, its better. You can download complete maps for all countries, so your phone doesn’t need a data connection – great when you are abroad. You can also install a high quality voice, better than Google’s, and their satellite maps are better resolution than Google’s also.

Important to note that google doesn’t have licences in a lot of cities for offline maps, i.e. Spain.

I use Navmii on my Android instead. Far better, shows way more info like house numbers, actual road names, etc. You have the option of data on or off.

Could you use GPS in conjunction with the offline map? That would be great!

What I really need is being able to save a route offline. I am in US at the moment, and last week travelled to Philadelphia. Google figured out the best route for me, but then I had to keep the map on screen all time – tried zooming in 15 min, and the blue line disappeared! Please, Google?
