The UK began bombing Isis in Syria just hours after last night's vote

Six targets were the focus of RAF Tornado jets.

WITHIN HOURS OF parliamentarians voting for military action against Isis in Syria, the UK dropped its first bombs.

Royal Air Force planes, which had been readied at their base in Cyprus, hit six targets in an oil field under Isis control in eastern Syria, according to BBC News sources.

The Ministry of Defence would not be drawn on location specifics. A spokesperson said four Tornado jets had returned from the “first offensive operation over Syria” after conducting strikes.

Following a 10-hour debate yesterday, MPs voted 397 to 223 for UK action at about 10.30pm.

It was expected that strikes would begin almost immediately once the vote passed.

Many of the front pages of British newspapers today have declared the start of a new war.

In a statement yesterday, the department said the terror group also “suffered further losses in a series of air strikes” in Iraq.
