LESS THAN TWO months after dangerous criminal Derek Brockwell escaped from Tallaght Hospital, another prisoner has managed to flee the facility.
The 21-year-old Ronanstown man in question is thought to be of low-risk to the population. He was in Garda custody at the time of the escape.
Happening early on Tuesday morning, this time the escape was a non-violent one, unlike the Brockwell incident where two prison officers were stabbed.
The fugitive is thought to have acted completely on his own.
“The week before last a 21-year-old male was arrested in the Lucan area on the back of a number of bench warrants,” a Garda spokesman told TheJournal.ie.
He was transferred to Tallaght Hospital to undergo surgery on a wound he had sustained some time ago. At the time he was under Garda supervision owing to the outstanding court order.
While there he managed to evade us, and ran away.
He has managed to keep himself low ever since. He obviously doesn’t want to go to prison.
Investigations are continuing.
The latest incident follows hot on the heels of the escape of armed robber Brockwell from the hospital.
Brockwell (53) had been serving a seven-year sentence at Portlaoise prison for robbery and possession of firearms.
He escaped in February, stabbing two of his three guards while en route to the hospital before fleeing on a waiting motorbike.
He remained at large for over 24 hours, before being tasered and captured in Belfast. He stabbed himself in the stomach as police approached.
He has since been transferred to a prison in England to serve the remainder of his several life sentences.

I would say the Garda was treating the prisoner with respect and decency but he did the dirt in their kindness..Believe it or not most of the Garda are nice people.
Well in fairness to them they won’t shoot you if you run off.
And oddly enough in this case, it sounds like the guards did him a big favour arresting him. He’s been wandering around with a wound that required surgery & only got the required medical attention thanks to the guards bringing him to hospital. He could have had septicemia by now if not for his bench warrants being executed.
Surely stopping this happening isn’t rocket science

Did they drop him at the door and go off for a bit of grub. Sounds like it. Bad enough were paying gardai to taxi filth to hospital but when they can’t even carry out that simple task without f*****g it up. Jesus Christ what sort of morons have we employed in our public service.

You belittle 2 professional prison officers who were stabbed – very seriously injured in the line of duty by an out of control and very dangerous prisoner in the course of his escape by your comment . They too work in the public service and don’t deserve your vile comment. For that there is no excuse. Please remove or retract same.
I’d do it correctly so the s*******e would be brought back to his cell. They obviously didn’t do it correctly because he didn’t return to his cell. Now are you enlightened guard.

One last comment sir, I would safely say that IF you were ever employed in a position of some authority and someone in your charge came at yourself and a colleague to stab or maim you with a knife you would do one of 2 things, run very quickly in the opposite direction leaving your colleague to deal with that person OR have a rather large faecal and urine explosion on the floor.
