A 16-YEAR-OLD BOY has been found guilty of murdering his former sweetheart by battering her to death.
Joshua Davies arranged to meet his ex-girlfriend, 15-year-old schoolgirl Rebecca Aylward, in woods near their hometown of Maesteg, South Wales, last October. When she arrived he smashed her skull with a stone the size of a rugby ball and left her lying face down on the ground, Swansea Crown Court heard.
Davies had made a bet with a friend who promised him a full cooked breakfast if he carried out the killing, the court was told. The Independent reports that Davies was yesterday convicted of murder and told to expect a sentence of “indefinite duration”.
Rebecca was wearing new clothes she had bought just the day before and put on especially for the occasion, the Guardian reports.
Following the verdict the schoolgirl’s family issued a statement saying their lives had “stopped” since the killing. According to the BBC, the statement continued: “Rebecca was killed in a senseless and barbaric act. She died at the hands of someone she loved and trusted. We will never forget what he [Davies] did to her or forgive him for destroying our family.”

Jesus that’s very sad. The fact that she got all dressed up to meet him really strikes a chord with me.
This story makes me feel weak. An horrific attack on an innocent person. It challenges me to think about where people get their values from? If we are serious about living in a peaceful society, what do we do that promotes violence? The movies we watch? The dramas? Society has a role in openly condemning violent behavior so it is seen for what it is. So that it is made clear, beyond all reasonable doubt that we will not accept it. As long as we don’t have these discussion with our communities, our friends, our parents and our children, we allow the fictional world of TV dominate the realities and perceptions of real people.
There was always murderers, even before tv
Jesus that’s barbaric. I think we see so much murder and depravity we’re becoming desensitised to it but this story just grabbed me, the poor girl, and her family.
That poor young girl. I’m reading this in my office in NYC and even my colleagues here, who unfortunately see too much of this type of barbaric behaviour in this country, are in shock.

I used to have a friend whose mother had an extension built and her three teenagers could hang out at the house where she knew where they where – we could all go around there and everyone was welcome – the kids were all round there most evenings. She had peace of mind and knew they weren’t hanging out around the town. Being a teenager is probably one of the more dangerous periods of life in urban areas at least.
He should suffer a similar fate!!
