63 FRONTLINE EMERGENCY workers in county Louth have been taking part in this year’s Movember fundraising campaign in honour of Garda Tony Golden, who was killed in Omeath last month.
Garda Golden’s work partner Kevin Cleary has been organising Movember fundraising for the last four years in his division.
“It’s something Tony believed in and participated in – we’re doing it in memory of him this year,” he told TheJournal.ie. “All of the money will be handed over the to the Movember Foundation on behalf of Tony.”
In total, 63 emergency service workers including gardaí, paramedics, firefighters and members of the Coast Guard are all involved in the fundraising drive this year.
Three of Garda Golden’s brothers are also taking part and his wife Nicola and their three children attended a photo-shoot last week to promote the ‘Louth Frontline Bros’ campaign.
It’s a way of everyone coming together in such a hard time, a difficult time for everyone. It’s something he believed in.
On their Movember Foundation page, they say their motivation is their “late friend, colleague and Mo Bro”.
“We’re standing strong together this year in the fight against cancer.”
The group has succeeded in raising upwards of €15,000 and Cleary said they hope to build on that by the end of the month when they will have a ‘shave-off’ night.
