Tracing the last known steps of Trevor Deely

He was last seen on CCTV walking in Dublin 4 in December 2000.

TheJournal.ie / YouTube

GARDAÍ INVESTIGATING THE disappearance of Trevor Deely can trace where he was last seen in December 2000 up to a point – and then the trail goes cold.

Extensive analysis of CCTV by the cold case team tasked with finding out new information revealed footage of Trevor heading back to his workplace after a night out before continuing on his way home. A man is seen following him in the video.

Last weekend gardaí launched a major search operation in a field more than 9km away from where Trevor was last seen.

In the video above, we retrace his last known route.

With reporting by Michelle Hennessy and Cormac Fitzgerald

Has whatever conversation he had with his work colleague when he dropped it and had a coffee been revealed?

@Dave Hogan: AFAIK nothing of that conversation has been released to the public. There’s a lot of details that haven’t been released. Was he in an altercation with someone before leaving Buck Whaleys? It was a Christmas party, a lot of people do drugs at Christmas parties, did he fall in with the wrong crowd and do some of their drugs? Did they say that he owed them money for the drugs which he wasn’t willing to pay? Was he gay? Did he meet someone off camera and decide to go with them? I’m not calling his character into question but these are things that haven’t been asked/answered! Why has his mother never given an interview? Does he come from an affluent family? Why is so much media time given to his disappearance over all the other missing young folk? There’s a lot more to this disappearance than what is being released to the public.

@liam whelan: it’s probably being given more publicity Because its more perplexing and frustrating that the poor chap disappeared in a busy city with security footage deepening rather then helping the mysterious event.

@liam whelan: I don’t believe that this case has got more coverage than others that have gone missing .. Philip Kearns , Fiona Pender, Fiona Sinnott, JoJo Dollard , Annie and most of the others girls that gone missing over the years have had pretty much the same media attention ..

There was a mention in one article that he’d had an altercation with this man the morning of his Christmas party.

It’s been stated numerous times that Trevor didn’t know the person.

Logic would suggest he willingly accepted a lift rather the been violently abducted soon after the last camera image with the added incentive of a taxi strike and a cold and wet night to enter the car.
