AN AMERICAN BOMB dating back to World War II has been detonated in the German city of Munich after bomb disposal experts ascertained that it could not be defused.
The 250-kg device was discovered by builders on Monday evening, forcing the evacuation of around 2,500 people from the area.
The explosion was carried out shortly before 10pm yesterday and the bomb was surrounded with special material by the disposal experts before it was detonated in an effort to limit the resulting damage.

The Munich Eye reports that explosion smashed windows, cracked nearby buildings and started a spate of fires that were quickly controlled. The cost of the damage has not yet been calculated.
Structural examinations of the properties have been carried out since the explosion and no buildings are deemed in danger of collapse, the Abendzeitung München reports.

makes you think…as much as they deserved it back then..the british lost 80.000 from german bombing and v1 and v2 attacks from 39 to 45 but it wasn’t unusual for the germans to lose 50.000 per raid to allied strategic bombing..dresden,hamburg,berlin etc.hard to comprehend in todays world.
Britain didn’t actually loose many during the war. It suffered about 250k military dead, but then again it didn’t have a big army, the Germans lost about 6million military dead and a million civilians. The Russians, the main force that broke the German war machine, did it at a cost of about 11 million dead soldiers and 15 million civilians.
Aye, the Allied bombing caused around 700,000 civilian deaths (which interestingly is around the same number of civilians who died due to the Allied blockage in WWI), and 55,000 from RAF Bomber Command dead and 25,000 from US Eight Airforce dead.
Even ignoring the morality (is killing 700,000 men, women and children ever okay?), it’s debatable whether the resources could have been better spent…
It amazes me that almost seventy years later, bombs are still being found and I’m told very frequently in German. Really amazing that after how much the world has developed over them years, bombs can still be discovered. Just goes to show the history we walk on every day :-)
Hey, John Sh**thead Sheehan, you don’t seem to have worked out the basics of trolling:
1. The object of trolling is to wind people up so that their heads explode and they embarrass themselves in a cringable rage. The object is not to embarrass yourself by making yourself look like a t*t.
2. Trolling is about bursting egos and letting the hot air out. Troll the schmucks who deserve I.
3. This the important important. DO NOT TROLL using a traceable Facebook account, ESPECIALLY WHEN THAT Facebook account is UNSECURED and THE WORLD AND HER B*TCH CAN SEE YOUR PERSONAL DETAILS AND PHOTOS OF YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR NEW TATTOO!
Thank you for your attention. I hope you will be more careful in future.
ANA that is EXACTLY THE type of RESPONcE effective TROLLING aims to ACHIEVE. hOt and BoTHEREd are Ya?
IS ThaT REALlY An ACURRatE DePICtION of YOuR PHALlUS???
You tried to troll a group of people who didn’t deserve it, you weren’t very good at it, and now you’re all red-faced and shouty because someone did the same to you far more effectively. It is interesting that your non-trolling response implies thuggish “or else” physical threats. The last resort of the incompetant. Either go back to your mountain-top shack in the boonies or get better at what you’re trying to do.
@ John. It looks like you’ve an admirer. It’s a pain, but I’m afraid I’m not as sympathetic As I should be, given the circumstances. Don’t worry about, it’ll blow over soon enough, or you could always report him/ her to the moderators.
I guess they find maybe one bomb every two / three months here in Hamburg. Usually when they are digging foundation for new buildings. Lots of history still in the ground, they just built over it.
While war has been terrible there were many benefits in health and technology. It could be argued the benefits have compensated for the massive losses.
There should never be another world war
As horrible as it is, Kal Ipers is right. The human experiments performed by German and Japanese scientists led to many developments in medical knowledge and technology. What’s creepy about it is that some of these doctors/scientists were not prosecuted after the war but were brought to work in America. I think a lot of the Japanese experiments are still classified. All on the net if you google it.
Was in Germany for a year, they regularly unearth ww2 bombs in Bavaria. Quite often around Nurnberg remember hearing of a few in Furth.
@ Shanners – hypothermia. It is not a happy thought that almost everything we know about it comes from experimentation in the death camps. Strange that many lives have been saved with this knowledge, but this does not forgive the terrible things that were done to the Jews, Roma, Homosexuals and disabled people. Many of these were Germans. The Nazis killed the Germans as quickly as they killed people from other nations.
John Sheahan forgets that we got a pasting here in Dublin on the North Strand during.WW II. The Germans said they made a mistake in navigation!? I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.
